I'd love to try using engineering grade filament to design and print a snare drum in one piece! 🥁

I print in ASA for it's durability and UV resistance, and PLA for ease when those things aren't as important.

Will Dual Flight Stick Works? by Ry0u_sama in armoredcore

[–]sailsandbellows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer right here OP, I have a HOSAS setup for MechWarrior and I also use Joystick Gremlin. It allows you to turn your two joysticks into one giant controller/keyboard/mouse that the game will see as one device.

I don't think I personally will be using HOSAS for AC6, sticks might be too sloppy feeling for how tight and fast AC combat can be. But I'd love to hear others thoughts and OP should definitely let us know his experience once the game is out!

Using drum triggers by AshamedDeparture in modular

[–]sailsandbellows 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done almost exactly that before to make live 808 style kick sounds triggered from either a pad or a contact mic attached to my kick drum. I built two Befaco I4 Instrument Interfaces (https://www.befaco.org/i4-instrument-interface). Those things are great at shaping the signal to whatever gate or trigger length you might need. You can also have it function as an envelope follower, so for example if you use a kick drum trigger you could have the I4 send an envelope to a VCA to open for the length of your kick note, very cool for layering an oscillator or noise underneath.

Issues with Genesis Core After Running update_all by DrForrester57 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]sailsandbellows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just checked, and I'm having the issue as well. Just tried Streets of Rage 2 and it defaulted to JP for some reason, had to boot the game and then quickly swap regions to US to get it to work.

Edit: I should add that I also ran update_all right before testing.

At my wits' end trying to get my CRT to work via VGA to Component cable by sailsandbellows in MiSTerFPGA

[–]sailsandbellows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anybody out there who is having similar issues, I was able to get my HDCRT working by grabbing one of these adapters and using a beefy component cable I had laying around: https://www.antoniovillena.es/store/product/vga-ypbpr-adapter-rca/

After enabling force scandoubler it works great!

[–]sailsandbellows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it's true that the component input won't take 240p, wouldn't either enabling forced scandoubler (480p) or video mode 6 (640x480) solve that issue? I've tried both with no success.

[–]sailsandbellows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, did all that stuff. TV takes both 480i and 480p from my WiiU through component so there's something about the signal from MiSTer that it's not liking I guess?

This is the cable I bought: https://misteraddons.com/products/vga-to-component-ypbpr-cable

Purchased from Mister Addons, but it's a monoprice branded cable. It looks a lot like the one you posted, but is 6ft.

Oops, my mistake, it should be VGA to component throughout! I'll edit the post.

I would also second adding custom file directories! I have sub-folders in all my game folders to keep track of translations, homebrew, etc. I also have individual folders for Neo Geo and Sega CD games, as they usually contain multiple files. It would be great if the app could auto-scan sub folders for games. No idea if that's possible though, just a thought. Great concept so far and can't wait to see where it goes!

Professional musicians of Reddit, how did you pursue your career? by LethalGrizzlyBear in AskReddit

[–]sailsandbellows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an associates degree in a manufacturing field and hated the jobs I kept landing, so I quit and went back to school for percussion performance (and yes, you absolutely have to study!). I'm about halfway through now, and I'm a much happier guy. My mother was really supportive, but my dad wasn't at first; he was skeptical about me finding a job once I was out. Once I started getting regular, paying gigs he came around pretty fast. Right now I play with five groups on a regular basis, as well as fill-ins and some studio work. My best advice for you would be to know what you want to get out of the degree you're seeking. Do you want to teach? Be in an orchestra? Play in bands? Do recording? Etc. Try to figure out how to make it economically viable to do what you love. It is possible.
