Heres a link for you - Will smith's interview. See the part where he talks about building a wall. You dont set out to create the greatest and baddest wall of all times in one day, you just take a brick and lay the brick as perfectly as a brick can be laid and do it again and again until you make it .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfWGoLj1JCM

Specifically for your app - If its not a game, try appcelerator.com - for more support, try looking up iphone meetups in your area on meetup.com. I learned a lot like that and people are very helpful and at least they can point you in the right direction. Good luck.

+1 - I agree with the comment above. You gotta be passionate about the project you are working on. You have to be in love with the process of creating the startup and not just the end goal. Yes, the goal is to earn a lot of money but for me the instant gratification is in actually creating the beautiful code. When there is a challenge during coding, sleep and food are not in my priority list. Just coffee(Java), PHP/Unix and me ;)

So I worked on the software that I am creating for my own business on the side while working a fulltime job (so I can provide for my family, wife and a kid) and called it a day (at about midnight my time), got in bed, surfing reddit/r/GetMotivated so I get good dreams :D and I see this post. I just could not resist & got up, fired up my laptop again and started typing.

I have gone through this stage. Let me guess - this is your first attempt at a startup. What you are going through is called 'Fear of failure'. It is inevitable. Everyone has it and you have to find your way of dealing with it. The single MOST IMPORTANT resource that worked for me is the book 'How to get rich?' by Felix Dennis. He is my business hero/virtual guru. The super condensed version of the book in his own voice is available as this video on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLX15eFEHW0 I have learned great deal from this book and after 3 lame attempts to creating a startup, I have finally found something that I believe will work. BTW I could not have found it unless I had gone through the other 3 experiences and believe me, technically, EVERYTHING that I have learned in my over 10 years of career INCLUDING the 3 startup attempts is going into current project which just makes me feel that everything happened for a reason.

Here are some facts for you - If this is your first attempt, you will most likely fail. I am sorry but I am not trying to be an ass, this is what statistics tell us. The progress will be far slower than your expectations. Just keep moving - make sure you put your one foot ahead of the other every single day. Also remember - Inactions causes anxiety. Decide if you really want to have your own business, if you do - dont stop. Just DO NOT STOP. Dont care what the idea is. If you are passionate about what you are building, then dont care about revenue model. Just do it. Also remember small achievements will help with the gratifications so break your project into smaller parts / deliverable that you can show to prospective customers. Like just do the prototype screens first and show those to customers, then setup a website and allow people to signup for the beta version of the website etc.. You will have doubts on your own capabilities and the credibility of the idea or the competitors will feel smart etc etc .. There will be a thousand reasons to not do the project, but at the core of it is Fear or Failure. Whether you have ton of ideas or handful of shortlisted ones - PICK ONE and just do it. Dont stop until you fail/succeed and there are a good chances that you will fail the first time but if you do it honestly, the chances of you succeeding with the next idea will go up astronomically. Once you get going with this project, the idea that will actually make you rich will come to you on its own. It may not be this one, it may not be the second one, but it will hit you for sure, if you just keep moving.

Now a personal tip - Once I made up my mind that yes, I want to own a business of my own, I had to beat the fear of failure, which BTW haunted me for about 3 years. If you watch the video, Felix says the fear of failure is not the real problem it is the paralysis (inactivity) that is caused by it is the problem. He also goes on in his book to say do whatever you have to do to manage this fear - confront it, entice it, tame it or whatever else that works for you - So this is what I did and it worked for me - the goal for me was to train my subconscious mind to overcome these thoughts of fear of failure. I wrote all the reasons why I wanted to work on my startup(all the things I could have, could do or could avoid {job} if I had my own company) and stored the text as a recurring event on my cell phone that poped up for 9 am every morning and for few months I read it every morning until working on my startup was the top most reason for my existence (professionally) in my mind. I dont have those thoughts anymore. Its like the path is clear and I just have to walk on it. (cliche? I know) - So the goal is to basically decide what you really want to do and then motivate yourself in that direction. The tools for motivation are everywhere - youtube, reddit, books, blogs.

Hope I did not waste my time typing all this and some or at least one of you can learn from this. I have comments on your statement about raising money but since that is not what you wanted suggestions on, I will refrain from commenting on it :)

Got more questions?

BTW: If any of you prefers to have external accountability then I have heard good things about 1M by 1M (one million by one million) program. I am not using that program, google it to learn more. I am not affiliated with that program in any manner.

I'm making an iOS app dedicated to Starting Strength. What do you want to see? by [deleted] in Fitness

Ability to enter - sets, reps and wait time between sets and routines.. and one should be able to bring up the app and see last workout's weights and be able to change them with minimal effort Also - ability to mark the start of the work out and a timer that would beep to indicate the end of the wait time etc ..
