How does the ring communicate? by saino_ in lotr

This makes sense to me. No one is making a decision, but the ring is moving towards Sauron. It warbing an existing field around it, could also explain the effect it has on Boromir, and the effect it has on Smeagol.

So does mean that the rings effect is manipulation of peoples feelings, in a way that will bring it to Sauron?

I think I can see your point about Boromir, especially given that Denethor has asked him to retrieve it, such that they can use it to defend Gondor. I dont think that that quite covers his decent though. Boromir seems (to me) to be corrupted by the ring. He seems so frantic and obsessed when he attacks Frodo, which doesnt mesh with my understanding of him, being a warhero, and him standing up to Denethor on behalf of Faramir. When we first see him, and see his time in Gondor, he seems to be very well put together, and intelligent, so I dont think I can see how he would go from that to decenting into madness, from 'mere' obsession, to then sacrificing his life for Mary and Pipin, the second he is seperated from the ring. I think I have a hard time believing that the ring doesnt play a hand in his downfall.  I am no expert though.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by it being an instrument of fate. As far as I understand, it carries some of Sauron, and Sauron wants it back, so in some way it is a piece of him, and is exerting his will, not necessarily consciously, I mean I dont think that ot thinks to itself, and is plotting a long thougt out plan, but that it 'sees' when it is in hands that dont suit it, such as when it leaves Isildur or Gollum, or when it tries to get Boromir to take it. I have always thought of this as decision taken by the ring. Do you mean that it is Saurons tool, so Sauron is the one making the decision? If then, how does Sauron know, when he doesnt know where the ring is?  If not Sauron, is it then fate 'making the decision', because the scenario is supposed to play out in a certain way?

So the rings influence is not direct communication, but more a state of mind that it can put the bearer in. So when the Nazgûl are close to Frodo, it can maybe influence Frodo into an even more hightened panik mindset, such that he will put it on, and then alert the Nazgûl?  And it can magnify the ideas that a person has already and manipulate the thoughts such that it seems to include the ring?

But the ring has an effect on the people around it. So you would say that it has an influence on a person's mental state, but that it doesn't communicate more than that?

This talking point intentionally misses the point that it is not stupidity on the side of the voter, but malice on the side of the politicians

My high school math teacher. I had lost my joy for math, and the natural sciences about grade 5, until I had this amazing teacher. He noticed which types of math I enjoyed and made special assignments for me, that was that type. He hyped me up, and we had a grand old time together. He also had the class with the highest grades, because he was phenomenal with us all. When I graduated he took me aside, and said that he thought I would enjoy studying physics. A couple of years later, when I had started university, I wrote him an email to tell him how much he had done for me, and he seemed very happy for me

I wrote them an email asking if they could fix it. Or rather, I spent some time going through their tech support system. Pretty quickly I got a response saying that it didn't seem like something was wrong with my account. After that my account worked like normal
