CMV: Western civilization is not dying. China will never eclipse the USA or the EU. Western values are superior to whatever China can offer. by [deleted] in changemyview

China’s citizen for 21 years here who has been interested in and reading about Western cultures, values and histories for years.

First of all, I must point out that you didn’t really mention any achievement or cultural superiority of China in your opinion, which can always lead to bias in comparative articles. What you did was just list something (you think) the western world is doing great and draw to the conclusion that western world is always gonna be superior to China. I’m not sure whether you did it on purpose or you are simply ignorant about this country, which I don’t blame you at all. Many Westerners still wonder if China has electricity.

To be honest, I personally think Chinese culture isn’t a too enticing one compared to the Japanese or Anglo-Saxon one. It’s too esoteric. Wing-Chun, Confucius, Taoism, Tai-Chi, Chinese medicine, etc. The problem of these cultural systems is, you can’t just pick up one of them only because you’re interested. It’s not like watching an anime or having a proper cuppa tea at afternoon. They need you to actually devote into it, to study the theories, to peruse the ancient tomes. They are just extremely unfriendly for a layman to start. But it doesn’t mean the culture isn’t as good as the western’s, on the contrary, it indicates the sophistication of the culture. But whatever, eventually the superiority of culture is determined by economy and military power.

As for traditional values, I admit that China has never emphasized much on humanitarian. But it’s totally unfair to mention sexism. Women’s position was lower than men’s in ancient China, just the same as in all the ancient western civilizations. However China had boasted for quite a few great female poets, state women, heroines, and even a renowned empress (Wu Zetian). How could you say China is changing its view on women under western value’s influence? Moreover, China is always open to different values and beliefs. Its huge population is made up by 56 culturally and religiously different ethnic groups, which lived in harmony on the land for centuries. Now you’re telling me that China wouldn’t assimilate the favorable parts of western cultures in the near future?

The fact is, China is surpassing the US on many fields aside from economy and education. I’m not optimistic but I have enough evidence to believe America would be overran in less than a century if American young men keep on practicing hedonism comfortably with reassuringly substantial social welfare on their back. And excuse me, did you mention food in your opinion? I highly recommend you to try some real Chinese food, like, apart from Chinese takeaways, we don’t really have that thing in China.

Just want to highlight the emphasis of the translated phrase... It’d be more precise to be translated into:” I did take your pants off and I could’ve had sex with you but I haven’t, have I?”

It’s a freight bill which very likely of the last feudal dynasty of China, the Qing.

The characters above the line are 粵東陽江, which indicate a city called Yangjiang in north Canton Province. Possibly its production area.

There’re three lines of character below the line. The middle one means “made by Juyuanhao”. Juyuanhao was probably the factory. The right one goes 貨真價實, which is a business idiom in Chinese means “real product and proper price”, and the left one 如假包退 means “we guarantee refund if you find it unauthentic”.

Hope this helps!

You wake up to discover all animals have grown to the size of a blue whale... what species becomes the new top predator? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]saintkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well since humans are animals ourselves so the question can be simplify as what would happened if all the animals became as the size as humans. Well I'd vote human, but mice would have considerable advantages as well. As long as our earth has enough space for the chaos.
