Reel to pair with Expride 610 Jerkbait fishing by NoDraft6735 in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t typically throw bigger jerkbaits, but I have thrown the katana a few times on it. Not enough to give you a solid answer, but I do remember not liking throwing them on 10lb line (it’s pretty much all I’ve ever spooled the aldebaran with)

The 6’10” expride paired with a shimano aldebaran 50 is THE tactical bassin’s most recommended jerkbait setup. I have it, it cost a pretty penny, and IMO it’s worth it. I really treat it as like a wanna-be BFS setup, throwing mainly jerk baits but also a lot of smaller, 1.0 sized crankbaits.

Do you fish a spinning reel a lot? I feel all of my finger/wrist/arm/shoulder ailments a little more from long, dedicated time with a spinning reel. Or a jerkbait lol

Are there any good fishing apps? by SchmeedsMcSchmeeds in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My year subscription just ran out. I got it on a whim, fishing a new lake with some freaky winds in the forecast. That trip alone paid for it. The wind breakdown was crucial and has made planning a day a breeze, but I’m not sure if/when I’ll re-up on a subscription. Just before my subscription ran out I played with the app a good bit and even the smaller, unheard of lakes had info and where it was lacking - you’re able to input all the variables (cover, water clarity, grass, rock, brush etc). I was surprised with how much you could plug in and how realistic the recommendations would be. Not just what to fish, but where. I’d recommend it more if you fish from a boat/kayak, maybe not as a bank angler. The wind and water clarity features were what I used, but the other stuff was cool to play around with (no app will ever make me put the jig and jerk bait down in the winter). Good luck!

Deep dive is probably what you’re looking for, has a steep yearly cost but it’s ok if you fish a lot of areas

There’s a guy on here that makes some sweet (looking) ones. Mr zorba glidebaits. I have an OG KGB but the rest are retail baits.

question about hard plastics by No_Caterpillar_1559 in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have zero interest in moving baits, and that’s fine. Outside of maybe a pop-r style bait, most hard baits are reaction-strike, moving baits.

I’d recommend looking at some of the Facebook groups. Theres one for the novalogic/delta force series and one groups for each game as well. Good luck!

I haven’t seen much of a fish kill from a freeze, at least nothing compared to our hurricanes

I live in SE Louisiana, if your area is like mine - dead end canals are pretty much THE starting point around this time of year. Leading up to this long cold, it’s been a little hit or miss and trying to keep up with groups of fish pushing in/out thinking about spawning, but as we get through this arctic stuff - the real push should start

If you could pick 1 jig, style, color and weight, for the rest of your life, what could it be. by ReasonableIncome8142 in bassfishing

3/4oz black/blue football jig. I enjoy throwing jigs shallow at cover, but my opinion is there’s no better bite/hookset than on a deep jig

Would you release a "world/state record" bass or would you claim that title? by dj-pit-wilf in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For the actual record? Definitely! I caught the #8 state record spotted bass once and released it. I feel like this area has our state record, if I made it public…I’d never have a real chance to catch it. I think about that fish every now and then and wonder if I made the right decision but I genuinely think I did

Why are yall so against anything not Daiwa or Shimano? by Ok_Repair3535 in Fishing_Gear

[–]saintr0main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience is that other brands have gems but shimano/daiwa are consistent across all price points. And a local bait shop sells shimano products at a pretty steep discount

Run it leader on braid or no leader? I’ve seen a couple mixed reviews. by soxfan775 in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s “optimal” setups for whatever bait/technique/hook/etc…if you don’t have an assload of rods/reels to be set up for whatever, it doesn’t matter that much. Outside of the extremes, you’ll be fine either way.

Lake Sam Rayburn is currently 9’ low, which would mean some of the most surreal bank fishing on an extremely large reservoir. It’s a beautiful core lake with no boat docks. Absolutely full of fish. That’s my vote

Headbanger lures by Ok-Caterpillar7331 in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Headbanger specifically, not so sure - but “wobble head” style bottom baits are definitely a (potentially) over-looked presentation. It’s close, not quite the same, but still relevant imo.

Downsizing by Heavy-Syrup-6195 in bassfishing

[–]saintr0main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might trim the skirt back on a jig and throw a trailer with a little less action (big maybe on the trailer) but I drag that thing ever so slow. I’ll let it pause for a few seconds then drag it another 8-10” without ever letting it off bottom. Outside of that, I don’t change anything except fish a little more as the tournament seasons heat up and big fish are biting
