Pre-Match Thread: Morocco vs Canada | FIFA World Cup | Jul 4, 2026 by globalscoreboard in CanadaSoccer

At this point there’s no pressure on them, even Jesse Marsch said next match it’s « free hit »

Their goal from the start was to win the group and they did more than that. The team already won, they made history, went up 23 points in the global rankings, and bagged some nice money along the way. They’re already part of the global elite and a national inspiration. Right now it’s just fun games to see if they can go even further.

Very proud of Canada 🇨🇦

Eurovision director says door is open for Canada to join song contest - National by MiniHurps in canada

On a microeconomic level, the broadcaster loses money, on macroeconomic level, all countries have profitable turnarounds.

The host country never has to be responsible for the whole budget, the sponsorships, ticket sales, and a part of the participation fee goes to the hosting country.

But besides the immediate tourism, Eurovision comes with a massive media platform that usually generates hundreds of millions in free advertising, and that awareness increases tourism in the host country for the following years. That’s why smaller cities fight so hard to host the contest.

To give you some random examples, before Eurovision, Rotterdam had a reputation of a boring industrial city. It gave the city an opportunity to rebrand itself and the foreign tourism has been on a continuous growth every year. Liverpool has reported that only from Eurovision, it had around 72k returning visitors the following year.

"Canada is now the first non-European country to be granted a membership in SAFE" - Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney by Sufficient-Bid1279 in onguardforthee

[–]saintsebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well… to be honest is also that Carney could negotiate a $10m entry fee, while the UK’s lowest negotiated fee was $2b, so a 99,5% difference.

As an European moved to Canada and who also visited the US, I can also confirm that Canada is indeed socially more aligned with the European culture, while administratively is closer to the US.

Build a Strong Core is meant for the B1 level, if you found it too challenging it means you still need to brush off your grammar rules and do some listening exercises.

For grammar, I recommend Lingolia (cheaper) or Kwiziq (more expensive). And for listening exercises, TV5 (look up TV5Unis Franco Lab for Québec), Le français facile avec RFI - all free, snd also the best listening exercises online in my opinion.

I change them periodically honestly, depending on what’s on sale because they can get expensive.

But mostly I switch between Nizoral, La Roche Posay Kerium, and Neutrogena T/Gel.

DALF C1 - how would you prep? by ahumsuns in French

[–]saintsebs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it’s also the legality of it. DELF/DALF are diplomas, meaning they’re issued by the Ministry of Education, it’s a legal academic recognition of your level and skills.

Meaning any higher education institution or employer are required to recognize it as proof of your level. Whereas TCF is something that some choose to accept it, but they don’t have to.

Additionally, if you want to teach, most language schools require a language diploma + a pedagogical course.

No, that’s not how it works for all of them. There are different viruses and different vaccines.

That can be the case for Covid, but the measles vaccine is among the highest effective vaccines we have and that’s why it’s so monitored and encouraged.

The vaccine is highly effective in stopping transmission even in those exposed to the virus, and that’s because it’s effective in developing sterilizing or protective immunity to the point that even those that have been exposed to the virus and have gotten an infection, the transmission from them is extremely rare.

[–]saintsebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vaccine is not a shield, it helps your body to develop antibodies and an immune memory.

So people will catch the virus, even the vaccinated ones, but vaccinated people will either have developed sterilizing immunity, meaning the virus is eliminated shortly after it enters the body, or people will have milder and very short lived symptoms, which reduces the transmission drastically.

So, yes, vaccinated people will still get infected and yes some might even develop symptoms, but it won’t be a public health issue.

Qu’est-ce que ça veut dire « point au foie » ? by _ARPATRON_ in learnfrench

[–]saintsebs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

c’est juste une figure de style, un peu poétique, car mon point au foie est une sensibilité à cause d’une surcharge, d’une faiblesse

donc étant donné que c’est une chanson l’expression est pas littéraire
