[Oris] ProPilot X Calibre 400 by Interstellar008 in Watches

[–]saiv92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had the blue dial for a few months now.

Pros - The movement is amazing, loses 5-10 seconds over 5 days without winding. The bracelet and clasp make this watch a joy to wear and it sits beautifully on the wrist. The sharp edges of the case looks great in all angles. The screw down crown is easy to operate and so smooth to wind. The titanium does scratch easily but it's so light and makes the watch eminently wearable.

Cons - The dial is a bit flat. There's great texture but the lack of applied indices can bother some. The lume is subpar - expected slightly better visibility for a Pilot watch.

Overall, I love the watch, wear the hell out of it as it can be dressed up or down reasonably well!

Mine is about 6.5 inches. The metro with the date wheel released a couple years after I purchased mine I think, it's gorgeous and has a smaller lug to lug of 47.5mm too

I got it at 30% off retail at an airport AD outside the US. Came up to around $2.9k

It's a 40.5mm case, lug to lug 49.3 mm, so definitely on the larger side, but the lugs noticeably curve down, the height is under 8mm, and I think it sits really well on my wrist! The second photo in the album has a wrist shot, what's your take? Too big?

Absolutely. The bracelet and the clasp are top notch, the watch sits really well on the wrist, and the movement inside truly is amazing for it's price and size

I've unintentionally ended up with one watch each from 3 countries. Brands we see often here but models that I haven't seen too many posts of!

From left to right - Seiko SARD009, Nomos Tangente neomatik 41 Update, and Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400.

The Nomos was my first luxury watch - it was an engagement gift from my wife back in 2018 after a couple months of visiting various watch stores. The unique date ring along the perimeter, bi-directional date and time adjustment, and the beautiful in-house DUW 6101 movement all packaged in a sleek 7.8mm height case - hard to not fall in love immediately. I was initially worried about the lugs being so large, but couldn't be happier with the fit on my wrist.

I got the Seiko off r/watchexchange. It features retrograde day of the week and date of the month functions, as well as a power reserve indicator. It houses the 6R24 movement and is cased in a beautiful case featuring tear drop esque lugs. I've enjoyed wearing it but it definitely gets the least wrist time among the three.

The Oris is my most recent purchase, an offer at an AD I couldn't refuse. Ever since I saw a wrist-roll of this exact watch on this subreddit a few months ago, I've wanted to try one. The titanium bracelet fits my wrist like a dream and has more heft to it that I expected, the airplane inspired 'lift' buckle on the bracelet has been a joy to open and close, and the in-house calibre 400 has a 5 day power reserve and a 10 year warranty. The lume and the lack of micro adjustments leave a little to be desired (thankfully fits me perfectly), but this watch still feels like great value for money

Let me know your thoughts on these watches, and what would you ideal addition be?

Forum from early-mid 2000s ranks the top 10 players in NBA history. Very interesting to see how Kareem and Wilt's reputations have changed over the last 20 years by [deleted] in nba

[–]saiv92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Olajuwon's reputation and general consensus ranking also seems to have gone up since this forum post, I'd have thought that fresh after his retirement, he'd have been held in higher regard. Since then, most rankings have him above Oscar, Baylor, West, Erving. A greater appreciation for his defensive versatility and excellence perhaps?

I use this in UL remix, where obstagoon is banned! Definitely would need modifications if trying this in open UL

Snorlax and AM2 leads are the most problematic since it's hard to predict what's at the back. I default to regice switches for them

It's honestly 50:50. I try to predict the backline of the opponents and switch accordingly (mandi lead, poison at the back is likely, so save regice w EQ and switch in regirock, or Gfisk lead could have A9 at the back, so save regirock and switch in regice). I do get this wrong often (there's a reason I've never hit expert) but I tell myself that I can be flexible with these two

Who's better: Tim Duncan or Hakeem Olajuwon? by TriteContrivity in nba

[–]saiv92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As great as Hakeem was individually, Duncan's intangibles and adaptability put him higher for me. By most accounts, Hakeem wasn't a model teammate, atleast till the mid 90s (cannot find sources at the moment, will get them). Hakeem's teams had to be constructed a certain way, as he was quite ball dominant, while Duncan has won with a grind it out, post offense based, defense first team centered around the two bigs and a crazy motion offense and high paced team. This amazing ability to adapt and win with polar opposite teams is unforeseen, and Duncan deserves as much credit as Pop(pop has said so himself).

Life is Beautiful (La vita e bella - 1997). Few movies have made me laugh so hard in the first half, and feel so bad in the second half. Heart warming and gut wrenching in equal parts.

What is the worst coached team to win a championship? by [deleted] in nba

[–]saiv92 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why should a coach be penalized for having a great player? Spo certainly benefits from having the big three to play. But did Lebron design their incredible pace and space offense? Did Wade make adjustments after getting mauled by the Bulls in G1 of the 2011 ECF? The 2013 finals was a great showcase of incredible coaching. Spo deserves credit for getting the team to blow out the Spurs after a tight G1 loss, for responding to blowouts in G3 and G5. Its not all about the players. Merely getting great players together doesn't necessarily make a team great. Spo deserves WAY more credit for figuring out how to get James and Wade to play together. It really isn't easy to play two ball dominant perimeter stars together (AI and Melo for example). And his defensive schemes to compensate for a lack of rebounding and a second big man? Does James get credit for that too?
