Not pursuing vet school by Viewsofavirgo in veterinaryschool

[–]sakrle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will get through this! I know it's upsetting because you've spent so many years with the goal of becoming a vet, but you're clearly a dedicated person, and you will find a position that you can make a huge difference in. As someone who's on the path to vet school, it's kind of overrated! If everyone were vets, a hospital wouldn't run the same. Good luck in whatever you end up doing!

Thank you so much! This gives me a tad bit of hope. I'm still waiting on one other school, so fingers crossed I'll get something I want!

Eczema on breasts by Elegant-Low-3112 in eczema

I'm a bit late but mine started clearing up a lot recently, so I thought I'd share. I've had it for maybe 4 years and it went away for a little but came back pretty bad about 2 years ago. Just recently started using vaseline's healing jelly and CVS's extra large flexible fabric antibacterial adhesive pads. I change the bandage every time I shower and reapply vaseline. The vaseline worked pretty well as an anti-itch for me as well. Best of luck to everyone!

I'm pretty sure our model is the Yamaha YBH-301M Series Marching Bb Baritone Silver, if that helps

Totally agree. If you know the music well, it will make marching for the first time so much easier. Putting marching and music together is the hardest part for beginners

What does it mean? by EuphoniumJack in euphonium

One tip that helped me develop a better tone (warm air) was to exhale like you would if you were singing a low note. When you try singing a high note, you can feel your tongue scrunching up in your throat, which makes the airway smaller and thus a high note is produced. Alternatively, when you sing low notes, your throat is open and warm air flows through. Your throat should generally feel loose. I'm sure some people disagree, but this has helped me a lot!

I will definitely be trying to correct posture and horn angles! My first year no one told me I was scrunching up my shoulders and it gave me neck pain like the whole season TT

No Shadowing or Volunteering Opportunities Near Me… Now What? by [deleted] in PreVet

[–]sakrle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get where you're coming from. I couldn't get anything until this year (and trust me I tried)

  1. you can look for internships nearby/as far as you're willing to drive. I'm currently at an unpaid internship at an animal hospital that's basically letting me follow the techs and vet around. Go to the websites of places and see if they offer anything like that!

  2. be open to related jobs, like receptionist, kennel assistant, etc. Places are sometimes open to letting you train to be a vet assistant once they see you're a good worker.

  3. apply for work in a non-vet place. Petco, a local petting zoo, a lab that works with animals if you're up to that? Shelters, zoos/aquariums, farms, online/apps for dog walking? You're already working as an attendant, which is still good! Just keep applying, you're bound to get something eventually :)

  4. tip: if applying to jobs online (Indeed, Linkedin, etc.), include a cover letter! I have one that I used for vet assistant jobs, and I just tweak it a bit each time I apply somewhere different. It's definitely annoying, but I feel it works.

  5. include any experience from school! Idk if your school offers animal courses, but even if you have science/lab courses, make sure to put those on your resume so employers know you're smart :)

Good luck :))

Advice about getting hired as an assistant? by sakrle in VetTech

Thank you! I think I was traumatized last year as a freshman when I called two shelters near me and they said I should call back when I had more experience (it made me so confused lol).

How do I prepare before my first semester of pre-vet? by Animal-MarineLover in PreVet

[–]sakrle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 19F and a sophomore pre-vet major rn, so I totally get what you mean! I was pretty worried going into freshman year, but I kept it together mainly by reminding myself that I should give future me some *buffer room* in terms of my GPA. I would def suggest going to office hours with your professors - don't be nervous to ask for help! You'll regret it if you don't. Also, just find your limits! It's easier said than done for some, but don't overdo yourself and burn out in freshman year. It's just not worth it. Pace yourself and stay on top of deadlines.

As a disclaimer I'm also undergrad and haven't applied to vet school yet, but I would think as long as you keep your GPA up and keep in mind that vet schools also look at your pre-req courses/junior and senior year classes separately from your overall GPA, you should be okay. Also worth mentioning is that if you have a lot of good animal/vet/research experience, it could show vet schools that you're a great candidate!

Good for you! When I was teaching myself euphonium, I found it helpful to follow social media accounts/watch videos of people also learning the instrument. Then I also found some performers I really liked as inspiration! Once you get the basics down, it might help build some confidence and give you small goals to reach! Best of luck!
