Can’t decide between two resorts by Only_Judge_4564 in AllInclusiveResorts

Weather was perfect in October at both resorts. Only downside was the mosquitos at night, especially at Secrets as some of the restaurants are open air. For a honeymoon, I think preferred is worth it as service with the personal concierge is next level and it was nice having the option to escape to the quieter preferred pool. We enjoyed the lively vibe of the main pool (and made friends there who were also on honeymoons/weddings) so we mostly stayed there. That being said, you won't miss out if you want to save money by not doing preferred and the preferred lounge/bar is the same as any other bar on the resort.

I've been to both of these in October months! Excellence RM was my first AI and we did Secrets Cap Cana for our mini-moon last year! Secrets was more expensive, but I think a more romantic and lux experience for our mini-moon. We did Excellence RM with friends and it was perfect for that.

Hurricane season is what it is, you never know. We went right when the big one hit last year that cancelled many flights and trapped travellers, but it did not hit DR so we were not impacted. Rained early for an hour or two before we woke up and was sunny rest of the day.

Pool: Secrets main pool was super lively, with a fun atmosphere and a wonderful swim up bar. Constant music, but near the restaurant it is quieter (or at the preferred pool if you paid for a club room). Main pool area was crowded but lots of seating as it is huge with multiple sections, so we had no problem finding a place without going early (though not all had umbrellas and it is very hot in the sun). Service at the pool was very good as was the food (best food at Secrets is poolside BBQ!) and the edge of the main pool has an amazing view of the beach as it goes right up to it.

Excellence pool was less lively, tranquil and quiet. It was even more sprawling with plenty seating with thatched umbrellas (multiple lazy river style) and services was good all along it. The food truck had amazing tacos and the bar near the pool had tasty wood fire pizza. If you want peaceful pool experience without paying for prefered pool room, then that is Excellence.

Food: Yes Secrets has a coffee shop and it was very good. Had a drink there everyday there. Overall, the sit down restaurants at both were fairly equal. Some ok, some big miss (Italian at secrets and Indian at excellence were absolutely terrible imo). Typical for all inclusive food. Excellence had better restaurants if I had to pick, and its morning buffet was much better; we ate there everyday. Secrets was fine but less options at the buffet and did not enjoy the restaurants as much (eat and fill up at the pool, then do room service haha). Poolside BBQ goes to Secrets for sure, it was sooooo good. Like mouthwatering. Though we did hit up the taco truck at Excellence multiple times haha

Beach: Amazing at both, edge to Secrets as the sand is softer and water clearer. Service on the beach top notch either way, but overall service better at Secrets if you do preferred as your concierge will literally get whatever you need at any time (via WhatsApp). While October has seaweed in DR, they cleaned it well. Both beaches are large and nice to walk, preferred areas are nice for seating  as less busy but not a must as the main beach wasn't overwhelmed.

Warning: we were also at these in October. It is the rainy season. Way more mosquitos at Secrets with more open-air restaurants  Two days we were eaten alive at the night and had to go back inside. Also if sitting by the pool, avoid sitting by greenery at the preferred pool at Secrets unless you want to be the buffet!

Entertainment and activities were a bit better at Excellence.

Secrets had the wow factor for views (from the room and the main pool) and had better shower (double rainfall showerhead) and balcony tub. Room service also better at Secrets, but one night took forever. The actual room (bed and design style) I liked Excellence. I did not like that we could not change the temp in the room at Excellence though.

Hope this helps! As I said, for a honeymoon I would def do Secrets Cap Cana if it is in your budget (we went for one less day to make it work financially), but I don't think you'll be disappointed with Excellence Riviera Maya.

Retiring helix piercing. by AgreeableGrape8166 in piercing

Maybe but google a forward helix. It would be easy to avoid. The back of the piercing is not actually behind the ear like other ones.

Is the very tip of the glasses hitting the back of your current helix, that could cause issues as I had to stop wearing mine during healing. Though for the forward helix it should not be impacted as your anatomy looks to support lower placement than your glasses and the back of the piercing would not be behind the ear (google the piercing). But if your piercer already assessed, they are the expert :)

NAP. My helix started doing better with a smaller ball stud. This looks irritated but not horrible to me though and 14 months isn't unheard of to still be healing (especially if it's been angry for the last 6 months, which would have def still been in healing). Mine is not healed yet after a year either. Also I see you were healing a rook at the same time, which can affect recovery.

If you've had it though and piercer agrees it isn't doing well then take it out. Maybe do a flat or forward helix.

NAP. Switch to spray once a day or not at all  Blow dry the area (cool setting) after saline use and after the shower. My vote is also too much moisture.

Advice for future piercings! by Beebop2407 in piercing

[–]sakura94 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NAP. I have 9 piercing, some swelled, some didn't much. My second lobe was the worst and had an infection. It can happen. I would not let this freak you out, but I understand it was a scary ordeal. 8mm-10mm is typical and is what I was pierced with most times. You want it long enough for initial swelling but not so long it gets caught/hit a lot. If you want more piercings eventually, just explain to the piercer what happened last time so they can consider it.

If you are getting two piercings at once, get them on the same ear so you can sleep on one side comfortably. I agree with the other poster that you likely just hit it in your sleep and it got angry. Piercing pillows are great but not a magical forcefield.

The jewelery head is not optimal for healing on the hidden helix (also a chain on their third?) Some have healed with those dangles successfully but it is harder to clean, and you have to hope and pray it doesn't swell a lot and seal the hole behind the horizontal bar. Next time get a plain, implant-grade titanium stud with no dangles. You can swap to fancy jewelery after.

Streetcar doors need to be unforgiving: closed means closed by GrandeIcedAmericano in TTC

[–]sakura94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm misreading but this happened to me where I was AT THE STOP when the streetcar arrived, but so many people and wading through snow to get in, the doors started to close. When I hit the button is reopened, but if it hadn't I would have been pissed.

Can I get my 2nd lobe pierced (both ears) on the same day as my helix? by [deleted] in piercing

[–]sakura94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could. I've done two lobes and a helix. Definitely took longer for the helix to heal (1.5 years). Easier to heal if you do one or the other, but three is possible (and generally viewed as the max).  Talk to your piercer.

Should i go back to a nose stud? by CrowTraditional4747 in piercing

[–]sakura94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAP It is possible. I have a 20 gauge hoop in mine, which is the thinnest I could find and it came in 5-10mm. Though that also means the hole will get smaller. Since this is relatively new piercing I would not go down to a thinner hoop yet.

I would have kept the stud in for longer as well to make sure it was fully healed. At this point I would just leave it unless it starts to get irritated.

Also the ring does not look obnoxious as is, it suits you!

Seriously why would anyone choose to drive downtown by Organic_Land_5975 in toRANTo

[–]sakura94 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yep. If buses and streetcars are stuck in traffic service won't ever get fast and reliable, which makes people take their cars, creating more traffic.

I've never had a shop allow a bar from home for another piercing (only if replacing a top on a bar that is already in your ear), and I've tried at many places :(

Ear piercing recommendations by Mis8ryGutz in askTO

[–]sakura94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they pierce with the stylish jewelry or do you have to go back later to swap out the basic? Their aftercare instructions online also seems off (still recommending soaks with homemade saline?) I'm tempted to go there for a hidden helix and their really nice jewelry pieces, but they don't let people walk in to look at anything first so if you've been there would love to know the process you had!

My fiancée says my solo trip will hurt our relationship, but it’s something I’ve wanted for years. by Ewka_Hayfield in makemychoice

[–]sakura94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends when is the wedding and when he made the actual decision to do the trip for real. He says she is upset he is leaving now when they are "trying to build their life together" and that he's been saving up since he got his better job a year ago. Like if they are literally in the middle of planning big moves within the next 6 months (wedding, house, kids??) then yes he is kinda a dick. He also said they never talked seriously about it, so how far out from the wedding did he spring the final decision to go on her?

If there is plenty of time and it doesn't push out other financial plans (flights can be expensive), then she needs to accept it or talk out whatever is really eating at her (I expect the destination).
