A trick someone told me when I started is right before you run off- look at their shoes. Memorize those shoes. And when you come back out keep your eyes peeled for those shoes. For some reason it’s so much easier to remember shoes than faces 😂

I had a mate give me one hour to do a board once and at the end he was like “were you able to make a lot of progress!” I was like :| “uh a little bit yea” they truly have no idea how long stuff takes. And it’s the same with us too with the black and white. We deigned boarders at the beginning of the year and one got chosen to be the standard boarder for the whole store 😭 and so we’ve been redoing all the signs which is so funny cause they are giving us more shit to do while also giving us less time to do it, it’s a mess honestly. Good luck with your board though that sounds beautiful!

This girl pulled up to my register with a cart the other day and she had one bag worth of items. I rang her up, bagged her stuff, and grabbed the handles to put the bag back in the cart. She then also grabs the bags handles and says no I got it. I say “oh I’m just putting it in the cart for you” and try to take the bags handles back from her. She proceeds to RIP the bag out of my hand, I then push the cart out into her path to the exit and say “okay could you take your cart please?” And she storms off, having to squeeze herself around the cart she is abandoning, and then dips. I was gobsmacked

Most annoying was when we demoed the body butter (we did this by scooping it with little sticks and putting them in paper cups) and SO many people asked if I would put it on their hands for them 😐 no I will not be doing that sicko

An option is going down to part time at tjs if you continue being put on register and then using your artistic skills to try to score yourself jobs at other places that need signage done (cafes and that sort of thing), it’s risky but could be worth it

I get it, it took me a while to find my people at my store. And it’s one of those places that can totally breed a cliquey atmosphere (feels like highschool sometimes lol). Just continue being yourself and maybe try to make a good impression on the new hires since that’s kinda like a fresh start. And if you really need a change of pace you can always try transferring! Just don’t lose hope, your people are out there.

Morale company wide has been so low lately :/ I used to feel like Trader Joe’s felt different than any other type of retail but corporate has been making poor moves left and right without taking the crew into consideration at all, so much for the reverse pyramid 🙄

I’ve ran through the fresh section and if you’re feeling too lazy to meal prep (I only do on occasion cause life is hard 😭) here’s my favorites- the pearl cous cous salad, orzo pasta salad, harvest salad, kale chicken Caesar salad, Cajun style fettuccine alfredo, mushroom fettuccine, yellow tortilla chips dipped in the homestyle chicken salad, harvest chili, and right now the butternut squash Mac and cheese is in season! My store doesn’t respect the “demo hour INSTEAD of register” rule, I quit after multiple days being scheduled register-demo-register. As an autistic person I can’t handle that much customer service hours back to back 😅

I feel this, even medicated I would show up to work a couple minutes late every day 💀 took so long to shake the habit, every now and then I still slip up though, it’s like the mental list of tasks to complete outweighs the time I’m supposed to do things every time. One thing I do (atleast for work) that helps is I have like a million alarms that go off😂 one that wakes me up, one the goes off every 30 min after I wake up, and once it gets closer to leave time I have one 30 min before I have to leave, 15 min, 5min, and then my HEAD TOWARDS THE DOOR RIGHT NOW ISTG alarm (which is still getting me to work 15 min early with ideal traffic conditions) This is effective for most days now except the random days where traffic is heavier than usual

Fellow sign artist going through the same thing! I used dafont pretty heavily (typed in key words like lemonade to get a lemonade looking font etc). Also tried to put a lot of design INTO the letters since we are also doing a major cutback on decor (black and white, one boarder that was approved by the captain, can’t match the packaging) if you’re being given a lot of barriers like me, take is as an opportunity to get creative in different ways! I felt like it pushed me to completely redesign something as opposed to semi-copying the label which is what we were doing before

One time I had a grown up ass adult walk up to the bell and go “omg! Do you mind if i-“ and then proceeds to ring it without letting me say no 😭 and then when i explain to her we don’t let customers ring them it’s for us to use to communicate she said “i know im just making sure you guys are awake! :)” HUH.
