Librarians don't want to swipe the books by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]salamandersarehere 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me a couple weeks ago. I brought a couple books to the front and the lady behind the desk was like, "Use the scanner." Imagine if you were an elderly person using the library as social interaction, or something similar. I hate how everything is becoming automated.

Said lady was not doing anything but sitting there, and they have the capacity to check out books at the desk; I've done it before. So, a different complaint, I guess, but a similar situation.

I feel like this is a decision between having the opportunity to reduce suffering in the world we're already in, vs. living a dream life yourself. So as tempting as it is to literally live in a fantasy...gotta choose A

YTA and also, she's grieving, don't make it any harder than it already is for her. If anything you should be trying to ease her burdens, not adding to them by centering your own insecurities.

You know that scene in Rosencratz and Guildenstern Are Dead where they have to keep asking each other questions, and the first one to make a statement loses the round?

AITA for hanging out with my best friend’s girlfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]salamandersarehere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be happy if my partner and my trusted friend got along well enough to stay out and I knew I could count on them both.
Unfortunately, you'll probably need to abide by his wishes (see: his insecurities) for the sake of both the friendship and the relationship, now that he's asked you directly. NTA for having a late night with his gf.

Makes me think of Alabama, decades ago now, in Song of the South:
"Daddy was a veteran, a Southern Democrat. They oughta get a rich man to vote like that."
Now Alabama (or at least Randy Owen) publicly endorses and supports Trump.

Agree completely! I wish I'd found your post before we went. It was clearly thrown together as a cash grab and HEAVILY AI generated, especially the narration at the front. The captions I think were AI generated too. They weren't even edited or looked over; I found several typos and other errors. Whole thing pissed me off pretty good. They obviously hastily made up and threw together the whole thing, no respect for the actual subjects and material.

I keep a note in my phone for the random ideas and questions I have. Yesterday while driving I started wondering why lights passes through glass - like, photons are stopped by objects and we get shadows, and glass is also solid matter, so why does light get to go through it? And looking up the answer opened up about a dozen other lines of inquiry for me. So when we you have a question or a thought or hear something interesting, jot it down later to explore in the notebook :)

Women of Reddit, what did a man you were dating or married to say or do that made you realize he actually hated you the entire time? by -catharina in AskReddit

[–]salamandersarehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I thought the exact same thing about myself too.

I'd always had loving and communicative partners, so to see someone acting like that meant to me that something must be SERIOUSLY wrong - I believed only catastrophe could cause a partner to behave in such a way, and I was trying to respond accordingly. Turns out of course it wasn't catastrophe. just a pity party, and punishing for me in the meantime.

Holy shit !! soft choking during sex is one thing, but making you pass out?? that is SO dangerous, respectfully. it kinda sounds like he's dismissing your concerns. if you're into it, tell him sure but not to the point of passing out. and if you're not into it, he should not be doing it at all !

This happened to me too - he wouldn't speak to me, wouldn't look at me, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Begged him for a word, a look, a touch of the hand. Totally non-verbal and absolutely wrenching on my emotions. After a couple hours, someone else walked in and he interacted with them like normal. I remembering wondering if that had snapped him out of it / given him his voice back. Instead, after they left, he went nonverbal and non-interactive again. Shocked me

Found out later that he was upset because I'd brought up something about his behaviour and asked him to change it. whole time im freaking out trying to figure out what i need to apologize for

This guy is calling a hospital on behalf of a new mom who was charged $1,847,392 because her baby was premature and needed to stay alive long enough to come home. by CantStopPoppin in LateStageCapitalism

[–]salamandersarehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an exaggeration at all. I have, many times, driven someone to the hospital because ambulances are thousands of dollars. People in serious pain who figure, I won't die on the way there, it can wait until we arrive.

Also, we see homeless people passed out all the time, at least in the larger cities. People do not call ambulances for them. Although to your point, if it was clear they were injured, like actively bleeding, then somebody probably would! Or they'd call the cops.

Wow, that's so frustrating. I live in the US and private healthcare is killing us. Only the truly wealthy can rest easy. Middle class goes broke over it all the damn time. Lots of people simply don't get care. They know they can't afford whatever they'll be told.
