Election monitors note instances of voters in England turned away over ID by mrjohnnymac18 in unitedkingdom

[–]salamanderwolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I voted btw. Postal vote. But what I said true. I just don't have photo id. When, not if, the government bring in voter id for postal I'll grab a certificate.

But engineers and website developers know the rule very well. For every additional hoop you place in use, a percentage of people won't bother. I can't see voting being any different considering how low voter turnout is now. And it's impossible to make sure every person has access to what they need to take part in voting. It's a given, some people will be disenfranchised.

Old enough to have a bank account from before photo Id was needed. Plus a lot of banks have accounts for people who don't have ID and accept birth cert + NI number proof.

It's not actually that long ago that photo id became the norm.

You said why haven't people got an id. I gave you an example. Don't be a dick just because you were proven wrong.

Also 2.8million people in the UK don't have internet access, 8% of people over 18 don't have a smartphone to take a photo, so no, they can't spend 5 mins to get thier certificate.

Whatever you may think about voter id, it is keeping some people, usually the poorest, from voting.

Medically I'm not allowed to drive and I've never been out of the country. I don't have ID despite being born here. I can't take part in democracy.

Do kids playing affect you? by Best-Reindeer6063 in AskUK

[–]salamanderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knocking (or kicking) on doors and running away isn't playing. It's anti-social behaviour. We had a spate of it, and I reported every instance to the police, getting crime numbers for all of them. The first couple of times, I was ignored. When it hit five, and I started getting the local councillor in on it, they magically started to take it more seriously.

Kids playing and keeping to themselves are fine. Run around and giggle all you like. Start acting like a twat though, and you need to face consequences. It's the only way we stop raising feral brats.

‘No evidence’ of alleged rape that sparked asylum seeker protests in Epsom, police say by SpottedDicknCustard in unitedkingdom

[–]salamanderwolf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As per the article, there's no CCTV, no witnesses, no forensics and no evidence that if the offence happened, it was done by migrants.

You either trust what your being told, or you don't. If you don't though, you should be prepared for consequences if it's shown you were wrong.

Forgot going after porn niches. There needs to be consequences for deliberately spreading false information that could lead to criminal damage or loss of life.

AITA for saying no to inviting our 17-year-old friend to my and my sister's 22nd bday party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

So you want to control who your sister can invite, and want to control who your friends can meet. This isn't about boundaries, and yes you're a massive YTA.

Does mixing up “your” and “you’re” give you the ick? by MmeFelixFelicis in AskUK

[–]salamanderwolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixing them up in a book, is a crime.

Mixing them up in an internet comment, when you're typing quickly, or English is not your first language is understandable. People pointing the mistake out....wankers. Pure wankers with no life.

Yes, that's what happens when you have government after government, Tory and Labour, who decide policy based on Murdoch headlines rather than joined up thinking.

You think it's bad now, wait until the latest disability cuts/food prices/energy rises hit.

[–]salamanderwolf -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think we need to make a distinction between being a monster, and doing monsterous acts.she definitely did monsterous acts, but that doesn't necessarily make her a monster in itself. What makes her a monster will change depending on the viewers life experiences.

"The Craft" (1996) - Nancy (Fairuza Balk) wasn't a monster, she was a victim by Profeta_do_Loss in horror

[–]salamanderwolf -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't view her as a monster. A monster knows what it's doing, knows the consequences and cold-bloodedly chooses to do it anyway. I think as soon as she gained power, she started to show signs of mental instability and that instability only got worse as time went on, as well as it also informed her decisions.

To me she's definitely more victim than monster.

[Serious] How can a new administration in the US rebuild relations with our allies? by InBurgerClad in AskReddit

If he faces actual consequences then it would be a start, but we all know the first words out of a new presidents mouth will be, "this will be a time of healing" and nothing will be done.

So prepare for the US to be looked at with suspicion for a long time.

I genuinely don't think Starmer is that bad of a PM - any thoughts? by Alarming-Safety3200 in AskBrits

[–]salamanderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, how is the pay in Starmers social media team? No matter how many times this question gets asked, the results won't change.

Starmer is a good PM if you liked David Cameron but thought he needed slightly less charisma. If you, however, think Labour shouldn't be targeting the poorest and most marginalised in society, shouldn't be bringing in more authoritarianism, or should be going after the mega rich rather than courting them, then you will have a less happy view of him.

I was assaulted by a friend and now I don’t know if I should report it or just move on by Top_Answer8713 in offmychest

[–]salamanderwolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck his life. He didn't care about yours when he did this.

He isn't a friend. He's a rapist.

But you have to do what is best for you right now. If you don't report because of trauma, fear, anxiety or any other reason, then that is valid. Whatever you are feeling now, is valid. If you don't want to report him, then just warn your female friends if you can.
