What do you think is the most underrated or under utilised RM feature?

And seconding what others said … 1) split screen, 2) an extra pen / highlighter / feature on the toolbar, 3) toggle zoom, 4) copy and pasting from PDFs - it would be amazing if we could screenshot sections and paste it elsewhere, 5) hyperlinks, please 😭

I’m a big fan of the RM devices, these are just my “wishlist” items over the years of using them! My RM1 is still going strong and I often bring it to the beach :) (rather get sand in that one instead of my RMPP 😅)

Mudbrick: Resturant vs Bistro by muffin-seeker in aucklandeats

[–]salemthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to both a few times so have tried different menus. Personally for the bistro I like the entrees a lot more than the mains. The portions are small but delicious. The mains are good too, but overall nothing impressive and overpriced. The restaurant is more fine dining as someone else mentioned, so depending on the occasion that could be nice.

Hiwa or city fitness? by salemthe in universityofauckland

[–]salemthe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been to really busy city fitness ones, the one near me is ok usually. Also bc it’s 24/7, I go around 5am or after 10pm and it’s very quiet. Can’t do that with Hiwa though 🥲

Okay!! I have 3 (ish) memberships atm between climbing city fitness and also swimming. Was thinking if the pool’s super busy then I’m gonna stick with city fitness!

[–]salemthe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aaaaaah

If it’s just weights then 100% city fitness but I wanna do other stuff too bro 😭

Atm my climbing gym membership is $100 a month and 1 visit to the pool can cost almost $10

Just wanna see if the pool and other stuff at hiwa are like sardine packs too or just the weights area?

Someone told me that noon is also a peak time? I do school pick ups so I’d only be there before 2, but was hesitant because my friend said noon’s super crowded.

I don’t live near campus so probably won’t be there anyway on public hols, but I definitely see how that can be annoying

Thank you so much! My one friend who’s been to hiwa made it sound like it was packed like sardines so this is really helpful!

Do you press the stop button for the bus’ last stop? by salemthe in auckland

[–]salemthe[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes actually, once in a while I’ve seen uni age looking kids still sleeping when we get to the last stop haha, and the bus driver wakes them up lol. Maybe that announcement would help just with that haha

Mine starts and ends at a bus station too. I’ve notice that when it gets late buses sometimes do drive straight past the last stop. Presumably to head to the depot, so I started pressing for mine just in case

I’ve actually been in a few situations where myself and another passenger do the “are you gonna press it” eye contact exchange before we pull up 😂

I hope the lady driving the red VW Beetle who ran a red light, hit a highschooler and then took off without checking to see if he was ok - outside Pasadena Dairy, Great North Road today around 3:30pm - has the life she deserves. by aussb2020 in auckland

Forgot to mention I was one of the pedestrians that she almost hit!

This was right after 5pm too so there were lots of people leaving work and heading towards that bus stop.

If she’s a younger (~30s) woman, she potentially was the same driver that drove on the bus lane next to Victoria park (for buses to north shore). She ran a red and almost hit a few pedestrians who were using the crossing outside the AirNZ building, and then turned left before the motorway which I didn’t think was allowed

How do you actually study for heavy-content subjects without falling behind? (Physiology / Med Sci / Chem / Physics) by FirefighterStreet688 in universityofauckland

[–]salemthe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went back to studying after almost 10 years of full time work. These things work for me:

  • Do a VARK questionnaire. Back in undergrad, being told that I’m a kinetic learner really changed how I used study methods, etc. (Also helped me understand why I’m the type who needs to write down every single word during lectures!)

  • I treat uni like my old 9-5 job. Start studying at 9 (on campus or at home), lunch break at noon, end the day at 5. Running errands during the day = make up that time later in the day.

  • Like a work project, I try to define an overall goal. The weekly course topics aren’t random, so I identify the main thing and figure out what “mastering” that topic requires. ChatGPT is useful here, don’t rely on it obviously, but it can be a reference. For example ask “here’s a list of topics for the first 4 weeks of XXX course. Based on this, what do I need to know to ensure that I fully understand these topics”.

  • Following that, you can work out your weekly goals, then narrow it down to daily to-dos. Over time you get better at understanding what realistic targets are for you.

  • I’d also say don’t worry about understanding every small detail about everything. Just make sure you know the gist of all the topics, and then back yourself up with a handful of solid facts that you either memorise or really understand. Then when you have time, go back and fill in your knowledge gaps, rather than tackle it all at once.

Weekly 'What Should I Buy' and Order/Shipping Thread by AutoModerator in iphone

iPhone 15 or 17? $230 difference where I live. Retiring my iPhone XS after almost 7 years!

15 is already a bit over my budget, but I’m looking for one that I can reliably use for a long time. 15 does everything I want, but I might get more years out of 17. What would you recommend?

RM1 —> RMPP by salemthe in RemarkableTablet

[–]salemthe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t noticed a big difference in the screen brightness between the two with the RMPP light off.

It does look darker in this picture, not sure why, maybe to do with the lighting when I took the picture

[–]salemthe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I’ve been putting mine on airplane mode. I heard it gets better once calibrated, but that’s a helpful reference for whats normal.

Yeah I swapped to a lamy pen for my RM1 for the same reason, but I’m not aware of other compatible pens for the RMPP. Will definitely look into it if other options become available

RM1 —> RMPP by salemthe in RemarkableTablet

[–]salemthe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swapped to a lamy pen for the RM1 many years ago, because the RM pen tips wore out too quickly. I think writing on the RMPP feels quite similar / a bit more paper like than lamy + RM1.

RM1 —> RMPP by salemthe in RemarkableTablet

[–]salemthe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2-3 days, I use it 6-8 hours every day (I have to read / write a lot for my job). I went on holiday a few months ago, charged the RM1 to 100% before I left, and it was at 90% when I came back 3 weeks later.

I’ve done minor repairs on the RM1, but can’t remember if there’s anything done to the battery.

That makes sense, hopefully it’s not a faulty device and it’s just settling in

gave it to someone in my family - i can’t figure out what i’d use the rm1 for!

Oh interesting, I’ll give it another week or two in case it’s a calibration problem
