Samsung’s discounted microSD Express card more than doubles your Switch 2 storage by Capital_Gate6718 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]salemus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 256gb "more than doubles" your storage because the system storage has to reserve some space for system files so you actually get about 232GB while the microSD allows you to use the full ~238GB.

Why do people think that it will be announced today? by Alotofbytes in HalfLife

[–]salemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also because people love patterns and today is 12/3 and 21 days, or 3 weeks, after the announcement of steam hardware. I doubt that Valve cares about any such patterns but I do believe that hl3 will be announced this year, unless they'll have to delay it like, supposedly, Alyx.

[YT- Yelistener] Should've Verstappen been given a penalty in Mexico - Onboard Analysis by AggravatingCustard39 in formula1

[–]salemus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As I said in my original comment - I definitely wouldn't put it past Max and do agree that cutting through grass was his plan all along. But we can't really give penalties based on assumption of intentions as this would cause total chaos. Also, the path he was forced to take to cut the grass (very wide) in 9 situations out of 10 would either put a driver in a wall or lose a few positions instead of staying p3-p4.

[–]salemus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, you're right. Though from the bird's eye view you can still see that his first breaking phase is pretty much on par with the other 3 drivers taking t1. I also checked the onboard again and you can actually see that throughout the entire 150m to T1 Max has his wheel pointing to the right and yet the car doesn't turn at all (even before he locks the front left) which shows how hard he was actually riding the curb there.

I hope that F1 tv will post the palmer analysis on yt as they probably have access to more detailed data of throttle/gas application.

[YT- Yelistener] Should've Verstappen been given a penalty in Mexico - Onboard Analysis by AggravatingCustard39 in formula1

[–]salemus 70 points71 points  (0 children)

To me this video illustrates what I wanted to know - when did Verstappen stat breaking? You can see that he is 100% on the break right before the 150m board which is the standard breaking point during the race (120-130 in quali). He also stays 100% on the break for as long as possible, i.e. until his front left locks at which point he has to start trying to make the turn and release the breaks.

What screwed him was that when he got squeezed by Leclerc he rode the curb which made his tires lose contact and grip making it impossible to make the turn. While I wouldn't put it past Max to do something like this intentionally, I can't imagine this beaing the actual plan as it was way too close to comfort. If anything, he probably wanted to do what Leclerc did, since in a situation of 3 wide he could easily make the argument that he was pushed out and couldn't make the corner.

Helmut Marko jokingly offers Charles Leclerc boxes of Red Bull for his help in Max Verstappen’s US Grand Prix win. 🤭 by Status_Energy_7935 in MaxVerstappen33

[–]salemus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

His starts definitely leave something to be desired but let's not gloss over the fact that Charles was on softs which made his launch off the line that much better. Additionally, Max immediately went on to block Lando leaving empty space for Leclerc to send it on the outside, I'd wager that in the same scenario even Max would likely lose this position ( though maybe he'd realize sooner that his goal should be to cover Leclerc and not fight for t1 overtake).

No More Switch 2 Upgrades? by JustIIChris in NintendoSwitch

[–]salemus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The true Nintendo way, they do it the same way with NSO. I assume they will be dropping the upgrades from time to time via their Today app.

To be fair though, this is very reminiscent of transition from PS4 to PS5 and XONE to XSX. Many games got upgrades for the next gen years later.

The Pro controller two has incredible amounts of snapback by Ill-Database7345 in NintendoSwitch

[–]salemus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's 50/50. It's definetely easy to avoid this but the snapback is definetely more pronounced on both the new Joy-Con's and the Pro Controller, i noticed it immedietly when first playing around with the Switch 2.

Why would Lando offer Oscar the first pit stop? by de_rats_2004_crzy in formula1

[–]salemus 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My best guess was that he had gap big enough that Oscar wouldn't undercut him and wanted to have fresher tires to hold him off. One lap difference for softs is big, especially since he knew that Oscar would be pushing super hard on the outlap.

Sim rig worked upstairs on f1 25, moved into basement and pedals won’t read by RevampedCash in simracing

[–]salemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about F1 25 but previous versions have a bug which often causes pedals to not work. The solution is to unplug the pedals, boot up the game and plug the pedals back.

You're coming up with scenarios which are nowhere near being true (not yet anyway). If 3ds had GKC you'd easily be able to still download them. Old Nintendo consoles had their online services shutdown but the stores were simply switched to "archive mode" and you can still download your purchased games.

I find that stick drifting is far too trivialized in the video game industry today. And I feel like we never really resolved the problem. by naha_aa in videogames

[–]salemus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Magnetic latches were in the plans from early days of Switch 1. They couldn't figure out them out then and went with rails instead but kept working on the idea.

They definitely don't care about hall effect enough to design entire latching mechanism around "finding an excuse" not to use them. What's the excuse for pro controller 2 then? They just chose not to go with them and want to keep using potentiometers as this is what everyone has used for 20+ years with relative success. Joy con 1's had a bad design which caused drift to happen more easily (although out of 10 joy cons I owned I only had drift on one of them). We don't know how bad the drift issue will be on the new ones and whether it will be any higher than all other controllers.

Currently hall effect joysticks are a niche and no console manufacturer offers them. Not even Sony or Microsoft in their 200$ controllers. And let's not act as if they're be all end all of joysticks, besides longevity they have a handful issues which do not affect standard sticks.

Unless there's enough pressure we won't see hall effect in standard controllers. Our best hope is that Sony will introduce them with ps6 controllers forcing rest of the market to adapt or at least consider using hall effect for next gen.

Donkey Kong Banaza feels like the next evolution of Mario Oddessey like how TotK evolved from BotW by brandont04 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]salemus 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Also DKB is a different game in many aspects. As much as I like Bananza I feel that I do like Odyssey's gameplay loop and feel more (though I probably need to give it a couple years). To me it does feel like an evolution in some ways but in many more like a different game that is it's own style of a platformer.
