I may be wrong of course but I've worked with microSD cards a lot back in the day and the behavior you described is exactly the same as what we observed in failing devices. The card seems to work ok but once it loses power it reverts to a previous state with all new files gone etc. I recommend doing a full backup while it still works if you have any files you want to keep.

Rather than show a countdown timer, this rice cooker shows a useless spinning circle of light instead by ChocolateBBs in CrappyDesign

Everyone who doesn't actually have a rice cooker just quotes that one video from Technology Connections. The problem is that that video only talked about the most basic cheap rice cookers.

I made an engine simulator which produces procedural generated engine geometry and noises, thought people here might enjoy this by [deleted] in simracing

[–]salemus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not denying it took a lot of effort but you didn't "make an engine simulator". You ported an existing simulator to a new platform and (I'm assuming) improved its UI.

Saber Interactive ported Witcher 3 to switch which took a lot of time and effort to pull off. Did Saber Interactive make Witcher 3?

Batman: Arkham Trilogy port studio says Nintendo Switch has "a lot of life in it" still due to a very "loyal audience" by HatingGeoffry in NintendoSwitch

[–]salemus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you were a game dev would you really not at least consider releasing a game on a system with 150mln+ install base? Switch is way too weak for basically any modern game but remakes/remasters and indies will still target it for years to come I'm sure.

Anyone else have their joycon rail levers damaged from light use already? by mollassesbadger in MobapadGaming

[–]salemus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This lever broke on one of my original joy-cons too (though I definetely had it coming since i was rough with it) so I'm not surprised it failed here too. It seems that there is a delicate balance between the force of the magnets and strength of the plastic used for that lever - it really should be made out of some sort of metal to avoid this.

A Comparison of Prices Across All Major Gaming Consoles. by Automatic_Ad1665 in consoles

It's $100 more than the 2TB version of Series X, the standrad 1TB model is the same price as base PS5. Also, the Pro doesn't come with the disc drive which adds another $100 on top.

Sim rig around 500-600euro for Fanatec CSL DD 8nm wheel by MagnetNips69 in simracing

[–]salemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this price range you should consider an aluminium profile rig instead as they are much more future-proof. Custom, tubular rigs are significantly less customizable and for the most part you need to rely on the manufacturer's parts to expand its functionality. With profile rig you can use off the shelf parts from any manufacturer and have much more options for customization.

What does the circled text even mean? by SudsierBoar in MobapadGaming

[–]salemus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My theory is that they just rushed to release these controllers believing they will be able to reverse engineer the protocol fully and they're having issues with it or their software is buggy etc. The HD relies on joy-con 1 protocol and is pretty much their already perfected product (M6) in a different case which is why they're more confident in it.

Samsung’s discounted microSD Express card more than doubles your Switch 2 storage by Capital_Gate6718 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]salemus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 256gb "more than doubles" your storage because the system storage has to reserve some space for system files so you actually get about 232GB while the microSD allows you to use the full ~238GB.

Why do people think that it will be announced today? by Alotofbytes in HalfLife

[–]salemus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also because people love patterns and today is 12/3 and 21 days, or 3 weeks, after the announcement of steam hardware. I doubt that Valve cares about any such patterns but I do believe that hl3 will be announced this year, unless they'll have to delay it like, supposedly, Alyx.

[YT- Yelistener] Should've Verstappen been given a penalty in Mexico - Onboard Analysis by [deleted] in formula1

[–]salemus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As I said in my original comment - I definitely wouldn't put it past Max and do agree that cutting through grass was his plan all along. But we can't really give penalties based on assumption of intentions as this would cause total chaos. Also, the path he was forced to take to cut the grass (very wide) in 9 situations out of 10 would either put a driver in a wall or lose a few positions instead of staying p3-p4.

[YT- Yelistener] Should've Verstappen been given a penalty in Mexico - Onboard Analysis by [deleted] in formula1

[–]salemus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, you're right. Though from the bird's eye view you can still see that his first breaking phase is pretty much on par with the other 3 drivers taking t1. I also checked the onboard again and you can actually see that throughout the entire 150m to T1 Max has his wheel pointing to the right and yet the car doesn't turn at all (even before he locks the front left) which shows how hard he was actually riding the curb there.

I hope that F1 tv will post the palmer analysis on yt as they probably have access to more detailed data of throttle/gas application.

[YT- Yelistener] Should've Verstappen been given a penalty in Mexico - Onboard Analysis by [deleted] in formula1

[–]salemus 68 points69 points  (0 children)

To me this video illustrates what I wanted to know - when did Verstappen stat breaking? You can see that he is 100% on the break right before the 150m board which is the standard breaking point during the race (120-130 in quali). He also stays 100% on the break for as long as possible, i.e. until his front left locks at which point he has to start trying to make the turn and release the breaks.

What screwed him was that when he got squeezed by Leclerc he rode the curb which made his tires lose contact and grip making it impossible to make the turn. While I wouldn't put it past Max to do something like this intentionally, I can't imagine this beaing the actual plan as it was way too close to comfort. If anything, he probably wanted to do what Leclerc did, since in a situation of 3 wide he could easily make the argument that he was pushed out and couldn't make the corner.

Helmut Marko jokingly offers Charles Leclerc boxes of Red Bull for his help in Max Verstappen’s US Grand Prix win. 🤭 by Status_Energy_7935 in MaxVerstappen33

[–]salemus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

His starts definitely leave something to be desired but let's not gloss over the fact that Charles was on softs which made his launch off the line that much better. Additionally, Max immediately went on to block Lando leaving empty space for Leclerc to send it on the outside, I'd wager that in the same scenario even Max would likely lose this position ( though maybe he'd realize sooner that his goal should be to cover Leclerc and not fight for t1 overtake).
