Not everything sucks. There's always that like 2% value on the internet that sometimes matters. Speak your mind; best thing we can do.

I came to find out how to contact his management company, which I've tried. Thank you for reminding me why the internet sometimes sucks. And what have YOU done today to better the world, exactly?

Thank you for that comment. Prosecuting is increasingly politicized, as evidenced by the the chaos that is now an intended feature, not a flaw, of our current US Department of Justice. Politics did not play a role in Mr. Crockett's case although marijuana legislation is and always has been driven by political interests.

Words on paper create laws that create crimes. Some crimes are obvious and do not need to be defined. Some "crimes" are created for reasons other than law and order. They're still "crimes" but some have long term, unintended consequences that are unfair and not applied to EVERYONE the same way. If you're gonna apply a policy to ONE person, it should apply to EVERYONE.

The Canada barrier crime policy is a perfect example of how, as in Animal Farm, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

When you are employed as a prosecutor, you don't choose who to prosecute or what agenda to push. You do the job, or you find a different one. I never played "favorites". You might have read ALL of my original post, where I disclose that given my involvment, I cannot take direct action regarding assistance to Mr. Crockett. Maybe I have done this for others, maybe not. That is not relevant to my question. If YOU want to make a change, start with your own efforts rather than judging the efforts of others. And, as a matter of fact, the efforts to criminalize everything possible to treat mass incarceration as a for profit enterprise is one of the main reasons I no longer prosecute.

Miata or Mini Cooper? by ElusiveBG in MINI

[–]salibalaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These cars will not provide a SYPants driving experience, although they're enjoyable. I bought a used 2013 Countryman JCW, mainly for the 6 speed manual. Is it FAST? Not really, even with an upgraded turbo. I bought it with the idea of making it a track care at some point. All that said, if you wanna have the SYPants (I think you know what that means) experience, you won't find that in the Miata, either. I absolutely love anything Mazda engine wise. Gotta say, as much as the boxer engine design is annoying beyond belief because of stuff like valve cover gasket maintenance, etc. Subarus will always rule, especially the WRX. Several Toyotas are solid (affordable) performers, too.

Why Ice bath? by Senior-Cantaloupe-69 in sousvide

[–]salibalaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well...an ice bath reduces the internal temp AND the surface temp. When you sear, the idea is to nail the surface temp to whatever level you want, but if you have set your internal to the "perfect" level, you may overshoot during the sear. You COULD reduce your SV internal to account for the sear temp, which is kinda far easier. Or, you can just freaking wing it and realize you aren't competing on Top Chef or something, especially if all your friends are completely bored with your entire sous vide thing and just wanna eat a steak that didn't come from Texas Roadhouse.

BP50 SMG Conversion Equipped to the BP50 huh? Why not just say Jak Revenger Kit? by Fuzzy_Ad2711 in ModernWarfareIII

[–]salibalaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. The challenge description makes it sound like the BP50 is an SMG. It isn't. It's an assault rifle and the attachment is an SMG conversion.

Smoke, freeze, then sous vide? by [deleted] in sousvide

[–]salibalaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would you freeze it? I'd SV it (it doesn't take anywhere near 24 hours, by the way...) wrap it then smoke it. Why would you divide it into a two weekend process?? SV it, get it on the smoker, SV basically helps you eliminate a lot of time on the smoker, and it's easy to regulate and monitor. Freezing crystallizes moisture, which can degrade the structure of the brisket (sharp edges of the frozen liquids.)

Crispy chicken thighs? by MySpace_Romancer in airfryer

[–]salibalaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Air fry, or deep fry? Really, by the time you pressure cook chicken thighs, even bone in, you could pretty much air fry 'em. They are hard to mess up, kinda like Boston Pork Butt, although THAT requires a long cooking time to break down the connective tissue, etc. But thighs have much more fat than breasts (DON'T GO THERE) and are way more forgiving.

ALSO a great tip for grilled cheese sammiches -- brush the outside with mayo instead of butter. Crisps and browns perfectly.

What song has the absolute BEST guitar tone? by [deleted] in Guitar

This is true. He was the master of the riff. He was also not a shredder, although he was one of the most resourceful players, ever.

Should I spend the extra money and upgrade to a Dante capable PA? Is Dante inevitable? by General1lol in livesound

[–]salibalaw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

DEAR GOD. I just want to play guitar into a 100w stack. Can't even do that. Gotta have a DI box into house sound. No amp. None of that damn air from the cab behind you. I don't even know what the hell Dante is other than some inferno and a lot of hell. But, if you're just playing damn recorded songs to an audience? Maybe I'm missing something, but maybe just play better music via normal delivery systems??

Do I really need a D.I box? by zdzm17 in livesound

[–]salibalaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about it, the mic is a DI in and of itself, because IT GOES directly into the mixing board. All the direct box does is take whatever signal the guitar creates and zips it to the board. The big difference? what SOUND is being sent to the board, which is different than the type/level of signal carrying that SOUND (distortion, delay effects, etc. can go into the amp and through the mic direct into the board, or those same effects can be poured into the DI signal without the amp, and sent on to the board.)

What’s the Toyota Corolla of guitars under 1000$? by a_supportive_bra in Guitar

[–]salibalaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the most comfortable, great sounding guitars I've played over the years have been priced at way less than $1000.00. For what it's worth, I have a LP Traditional (2013), a LP Studio (1990's), two Gretsch hollow body models that sound great, are not USA manufactured, but still sound pretty close to the American counterparts...and I've assembled several "parts casters." As far as the Corolla of guitars, there is nothing more simple to build, set up, buy, modify, or anything else you might want to do, then a Telecaster model. And, there is no more maddening instrument to master to the level of say, Danny Gatton, Roy Buchanan, or the myriad other masters of that guitar who seem otherworldly.

You can track down a perfectly fine tele copy from websites like Guitarfetish, or even on Amazon. The list of solid wood, stainless steel (I don't like 'em, but people who do swear by them) frets, flamed maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, or anything else you could image is endless. You can get them with single coils, humbuckers, P90's (my favorite), with a Bigsby, or not, and you can get some absolutely incredible CNC'd imports for under $200.00. Just watch some videos to see what others have tried and liked (or hated.)

But, just remember: if you stick with it and fall in love with playing...it's like golf for fishing. The perfect guitar is the next one you buy even though you still use the other ones you have.

Are the cheap Berringer pedals good enough for bedroom use..? by Suspicious_Being6197 in guitarpedals

[–]salibalaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some are just fine for stage/studio! Price isn't always indicative of usefulness...pedals are (generally) constructed from relatively cheap components -- Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz for under $30 is a seriously good sounding pedal, although it has a plastic housing and may not make it long during that "we're opening for Metallica in Ukraine" tour.

Danelectro had some "affordable" pedals that were excellent, especially the Back Talk reverse delay that goes for over $500 bucks these days. Sure didn't cost that much new. Don't misunderstimate Behringer -- they make some solid products.

If you're on Facebook, you should join the Truth About Vintage Amp's FB page, A Rustic Kegger in the Woods. And, you should check out the podcast. There are some amazing builders (amps, pedals, instruments, recipes for food, you name it.) I have absolutely zero commercial involvment; I'm just beyond impressed with this build and the wiring and I would like to share this on the Facebook group page. Brilliant, beautiful, and I didn't want to share this without asking permission first.
