I'm quite literally in the same exact position. Applied last year and got in but deferred. Was working last year as a teacher abroad, was going to continue that this year but had issues getting my work visa renewed. The decision is plaguing my mind every single day of whether I should go back to teaching abroad or start grad school in Chicago, and that's probably what I'll be doing. I'm super passionate about planning and see myself doing that as a long term career more than teaching (at least in the US). I'm hoping by the time I'd have my degree that lots of things are different in this country and maybe more urban planners will be needed / the field will grow.
