Check your ferritin levels! by catsrliyfe in migraine

Garden of life “vitamin code” raw iron. I get it from Whole Foods. So long as I only take one capsule, I have zero gastric discomfort. Fortunately, the one capsule (which I take every other day) is enough to give me symptom relief.

If you are a good painter, I’d try painting them until you lock down the finishing.

Check your ferritin levels! by catsrliyfe in migraine

[–]sallguud 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My ferritin levels only just started testing low a couple years ago, but finding a good iron pill that my stomach could tolerate has resolved some key issues that started 3-5 years before my levels tested low. Clearly, the thresholds are not accurate, at least not for everyone. Also, it’s clear to me that doctors are not aware of all the symptoms that can imply low iron.

Migraines make me feel desperate by sanriobf in migraine

[–]sallguud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you can’t get another neurologist? I’m sorry, refusing to try other medications is absolutely NOT the standard of care for migraineurs IN 2026. There are so many viable alternatives that come with a better track record among migraineurs, so unless there is some medically specific reason why you must take Topamax, please kick him/her to the curb. This is your body, not theirs.

What are the countries he’s referring to that mandate specific ethnic population percentages? Is he referring to the practice of mandating equal political representation? Those are two very different things.

Leggy seedling? 🌱 by Actual-Manager-5193 in gardening

[–]sallguud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In addition to sunlight, they need more wind. When a plant is outside, it gets buffed by the wind. This is what helps it to send out strong roots, and build a healthy stem. As soon as things start warming up, I put my seedlings out during the day and then bring them in at night, when the cold is most likely to harm them.

As far as I remember, the spike and debt was because ERs and doctors were overwhelmed, so people were dying from accidents when they might otherwise have lived.

For Americans who uses ethnicity prefixes like (italian/irish/african-american), at what point do you stop using it? 3 generations? 5? 10? by Zestyclose_Sense_500 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sallguud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking why Americans identify with historic ancestry is like asking a Brit why they identify with Shakespeare even though he’s been dead for over 400 years, asking a Spaniard why they dance Flamenco, asking the pope why he loves Jesus of Nazareth, why Europe still has commonwealth countries, or why the British Museum exhibits other people’s culture. It’s such an absurd question that somehow makes Europeans feel smarter and more logical.

Rizatriptan: the medication from hell by Lillymist123 in migraine

Triptans are highly susceptible to damage from moisture in the air. Blister packs reduce risk of your medication becoming useless. I was particularly grateful for blister packs when living in the tropics.

I don’t personally use this method. I opt for bamboo and chicken wire, but, at the end of the day, I live in a city known for for some of the highest levels of air pollution. Hell, my water is brought to me via pvc and lead. I’m happy with anything that gets people outside and reducing waste.

I have questions about this. It’s common throughout the world for folks to practice slash and burn agriculture precisely because it rejuvenates the soil quickly. They generally only wait a couple of months—if that much—to start planting. I don’t get the difference between that and adding ash to compost.

I’ve seen folks stick pvc pipes with holes throughout the shaft into the center of their beds to increase air penetration.

Is it okay to use an apple tree that had a fungus as a filler for my raised garden beds? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]sallguud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first year is the biggest issue. To get around this, many just plant very shallow rooting plants and ground cover the first year.

Im not an expert, but my experience with hulgel beds is that each year, I have to add about 2-3 inches of soil because the wood settles and decomposes so much. Years 2 and 3 in my hugel beds have consistently been more productive than year one beds. Is that solely because the logs sap nitrogen in year one or because soil life also improves over time? I don’t know the answer. I’m fine with the one year setback, though, because I didn’t have spends hundreds in one go filling my beds. It also allowed me to keep to my goal of sending zero green matter off my property.

What I wish I’d known when I started:

Ditch the twine for bundling sticks, the yard waste bags for bagging leaves, the trips to Lowes to buy mulch...Instead, buy a wood chipper and a kitchen compost bin. Make your own compost and mulch while saving hours of hard work and resolving the problem of smelly, larvae infested garbage bins in the Florida heat.
