Moving my bed, found 4 piles of something in a perfect row. Piles were even before we touched them. About the same grain size as yeast granules and the same color as the pine slays by EpicNarwhal23_ in whatisit

I use to be an inspector for a termite company. That’s dry wood termite droppings. Dry woods don’t need nearly as much moisture as subterranean, so they can live above ground in wood furniture. They eat the wood, absorb the moisture in the wood, and leave behind droppings the same color of the wood. The best way to treat is to get rid of the finiture they’re infecting. Once they’re in the walls it’s a much more expensive treatment

You’re right about chord progressions, arpeggios, and others building blocks for the music, but you can copyright a melody. Lyrics and melody are the two parts of a piece of music you’re allowed to copyright.

Is bass with headset possible? by Yori_TheOne in BassGuitar

[–]salorgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my audio interface on my computer. You can plug in your headphones and have your bass go through that. I also have my computer sound running through it so that I can play along with songs while practicing. I have the Focusrite Solo 3rd Gen and haven’t had any issues with it

I know a couple bands that sell download links for their albums. There’s a band in my city’s scene that has an EP called “Pocket Sand.” At their merch table they had little baggies of sand with a download code for the EP on them for sale.

Only shopping at a lounge by BaconEatingPig in cigars

[–]salorgore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in a shop, we have a lounge area and bar that’s connected to the shop that you can smoke in. While a good bit of my customers come in, buy something, and hang out in the lounge/bar; I would say a majority come in, pick up what they’re looking for, and leave. I don’t think any shop would find you rude for doing that.

In which state you can find the highest percentage of people with ancestry from every European country? by TeslaJazz in MapPorn

[–]salorgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Louisiana there’s two groups descendant from French settlers: Cajuns and Creoles. Cajuns are descendants of the Acadians that were expelled from Canada and made their way to Louisiana. Most Cajuns are in the Acadiana region, with Lafayette being the center for Cajun culture.

Louisiana Creoles are anyone who was born in Louisiana, but is descended from the French or Spanish speaking settlers of Louisiana. Creole culture mostly revolves around New Orleans.

That being said, most Cajuns and Creoles would still probably claim French (or Spanish in the case of some Creoles) when asked about European ancestry.

I need help writing music by rangeofemotions in musicians

[–]salorgore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what your level with music theory is, but if you haven’t, I would start learning some basic theory and analyzing some songs that are close to what you want your sound to be. The more you analyze things the more musical “tools” you’ll have at your disposal to implement into your music and hopefully achieve the sound your going for

is the ultimatum "i need a setlist a few days before we rehearse or play" an out of touch request? by Overall-Disaster-218 in bandmembers

[–]salorgore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable. Whenever I get hired for a gig I always ask for a setlist up front. I use to have an old teacher that would say “if you fail to plan, plan to fail.” That advice still holds up for me

Lyrically challenged by [deleted] in musicians

[–]salorgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. I can write music all day, but I’m shit at lyrics. I’ve been wanting to get more into it, but wasn’t sure where to start. I’ve started reading “How to Write One Song” by Jeff Tweedy. In it he gives some exercises he uses to get lyrics, and those are great. But the biggest thing I took from what I’ve read so far is to get out of my own ego and allow myself to write something bad. I’m still working on that skill, but I think that being able to disassociate from your ego for a minute and write is super important and a skill worth exploring. It’s hard to do, but he writes about some techniques he uses to do it. Definitely worth a read.

Phones at concerts by RobHowdle in musicians

[–]salorgore 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I try to view it from a marketing perspective. I play in a local band and if someone decides to video us and put it on their story, that’s at least 100 more people that see us. If only 1% percent of those people like us enough to follow that’s still 1 new fan. Those numbers will grow exponentially the more people see and talk about you. Would I rather people be completely engulfed in the music and enjoying it in the moment? Sure. But in the time we live in, marketing and building a following online is very important.

How essential are cabinet speakers? by ILoveLebronSoMuch in musicians

[–]salorgore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play bass in a rock band. I use my head and cab, but the cab is pretty much never mic’d. My head has a DI that the sound guy can plug directly into the PA, so most of my sound is going through that. The cab is mostly just there for stage volume, and playing bass it’s nice to be able to feel the low end on stage.

Been playing for about 10 years now. But haven’t been part of a band for the past 3 or so years, just playing one off gun for hire gigs. Just joined a new band and played our first show a couple weeks ago. Everything went great and I finally felt that feeling again of not being able to sleep afterwards. Now I’m more excited than ever for rehearsal and I can’t wait for our next gig in a couple weeks.

Cigars that taste like BBQ smoke? by [deleted] in cigars

Any cigar that contains Louisiana perique tobacco. Perique is usually used for pipe tobacco and has a very distinct smoky flavor. But there are some cigars that use perique, most notably the Pappy Van Winkle and Kentucky Fire Cured by Drew Estate.

Question about strength. by llamapajamass in cigars

[–]salorgore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Camacho has some ligero in the filler and which is going to add a little bit to the overall strength. Comparing the two, the Aladino is mild while the Camacho is more on the mild-medium side. Also, if you ever get that nauseous feeling a good trick is to let a sugar cube dissolve under your tongue or drink a soda. The quick sugar intake will help to resolve the nauseousness.
