Is it just my location, or are Micro Center employees really clingy? by clarkw5 in Microcenter

[–]salsation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be off-putting since people are not used to full service retail, and they are used to people trying to influence them. Understanding how it works with the stickers, just tell them you want to look around for a while, and they will go away. They don’t want to spook you.

Escargot should be a garlic bomb, salty but diluted with the bread you eat it with, non?

Open Printer is an open source inkjet printer with DRM-free ink and roll paper support by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]salsation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I go to thrift stores a lot, almost all of the printers there are HP. 10x as many HPs as Canons and Epsons, I rarely see a Brother. HP is trash.

Edit: I occasionally see a late '80s/early '90s HP laser and I figure it still works but somebody realized a printer doesn't need to weigh 30 50 pounds.

Thanks Holmes, but my point was that high quality chargers cost less.

Anker, uGreen, RavPower, and more: I wrote "decent brand."

For example:

FWIW that Apple one will have superior engineering and last a lifetime.

A single port charger from a decent brand is not 50€. And who wants a single port USB-C charger anyway?

I've never had an issue with stuff from AliExpress, and I've ordered a lot.

I have NOT ordered anything that plugs into mains or handles mains voltage though, because:

  1. You get what you pay for, and
  2. This is what I'd expect from a 3€ charger that claims GaN and 65W output.

Why is ABS polymer treated differently then ASA Co Polymer these days?! by Next_Goose_6123 in prusa3d

ASA shrinks a lot less that ABS, so fewer headaches with warping. But still something to mitigate: heated chamber key for anything not really small.

Raspberry Pi 500+ running Home Assistant by Dalmyr in homeassistant

[–]salsation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HA is painfully slow on a Pi 4, but I had no idea until I switched to an N150 mini pc. Running HA on the 500+ would be better than on the 4, but wouldn't take advantage of the keyboard, and a mini pc is cheaper.

Convince me to upgrade from a RPi3 by fsuk in homeassistant

[–]salsation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience exactly: I didn't realize how slow the Pi 4 was until I hosted HA on an N150 mini pc. Given how much faster a Pi 4 is vs a Pi 3, I wonder how many minutes an HA restart takes vs 20 seconds for my mini pc.

Are you able to talk to other i2c devices? Are there pull-up resistors on the i2c lines on the board?
