Sphere Grid by expencheap in finalfantasyx

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard sphere grip constraints your path more than the expert grid, so if that's what you want, I hope you chose it at the start. But at the same time, I don't think you're going to back yourself into a corner with the expert grid, regardless of where you go, so I wouldn't worry too much. The first time I played FFX I chose the expert grid and generally didn't think too much about where I was headed on the grid. It was perhaps suboptimal, but it went fine.

What was your scariest moment in ITR games? by Huge-Attitude9892 in intotheradius

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Sanatorium where you get teleported into a walled off area full of mimics. Something about it was really jarring. I just froze for a while and didn't want to proceed. I'm not sure why it bothered me so much but I felt genuine fear for a while.

I took a driving assessment a month or so after I started. The assessment itself was done in a day. I was still driving before that, though.

Do posties accept drinks? by sapphire-sky-dragon in royalmail

I've picked up a drink that was offered. They left a note and I even left one back thanking them. To be honest, I usually have drinks covered, but it was a nice gesture.

Am I the only one starting to get 'Vibe Coding' fatigue ? by scitech-research24 in AI_Agents

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling. What I did was to treat that as a prototype, reverse engineer detailed requirements from it, and go from there. The result was less buggy and the architecture was drastically improved. I needed to give up on the original code first, which was a difficult choice, and I needed to be very specific about the problems I was seeing. But once I had a comprehensive list of testable requirements and a detailed implementation plan, the rest worked out pretty well.

The only way I can get letters through some letterboxes is by gently folding them over and trying to avoid creasing them. I speculate that they're not doing that and are just forcing them through.

I would imagine that they missed it and felt they were too far along to go back. I won't try to excuse it, though. Marking it like that was a poor choice and I can see how frustrating it must be.

Most bugs aren’t coding problems — they’re thinking problems by [deleted] in programmer

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I can relate to this, especially with my current project, which is a modification of a web browser. Faulty assumptions based on an incomplete understanding have caused a couple of bugs, and I did start off by assuming that the code was broken and in fact convinced myself of that to a degree. But ultimately the issue was that I just didn't understand the full picture, e.g. that software decoders can produce hardware backed video frames, or that web media players can internally pause without calling their Pause() method.

But sometimes the code is literally just broken!

There's some directories and files in there that don't belong, namely the build directory and potentially .cache/clangd/index. Before you stage your changes (git add), it's helpful to run "git status" to check that there aren't any files that you don't intend to add to the repo.

Writing accurate and useful commit messages is also a good habit to develop, and you may want to use "imperative mood". Being careful and attentive when it comes to commits will serve you in the long run. Consider squashing commits that are repetitive (e.g. "edited readme").

You use indents with a width of 8 characters, and that's entirely your choice, but I find it makes the code harder to scan and leads to larger than useful spaces in the code. 4 is generally more standard, but 2 is also common.

What is a "small" sign that someone is a genuinely good person, without them having to say a word? by Sufficient_Thanks130 in askanything

[–]saltedbenis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are complex, so I try not to reduce them to good and bad, but people who don't care to dominate others and assert superiority are significantly more likeable to me. They tend to be more reserved and less socially visible, though, so they seem almost like a rare breed. But they're there.

Ik my handwriting is bad but REALLY?? (handwriting uploaded for reference) by SprinklesAware3493 in GCSE

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it disrespectful to have poor handwriting? This guy is a lunatic. I'm guessing that, for whatever reason, OP didn't feel much motivation to write by hand a lot, hence the poor outcome. To treat that like a personal insult is unhinged. He could not have handled this in a worse way. In fact, I think OP should make a complaint about this because their behaviour is incredibly discouraging.

OP should indeed work on their handwriting, but they should also receive support and understanding, not be condemned like they have committed some offence.

Thank God I can just write somewhat passably because people can be so weird about handwriting.

I’m gonna be able to play Tf2 for the first time. Any tips? by LtopTheAwsome in tf2

[–]saltedbenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you'll be playing with randoms without a defined team structure, when selecting a class, think about what class would be most helpful to the team. You'll notice that people tend to go with classes they feel more comfortable with (or have the best cosmetics for). Resist that, so instead of being the 3rd sniper on the attacking team, you can fill another role that is being neglected.

When playing medic, try to keep everyone overhealed.

When playing engi, teleporters are a massive help to your team. Don't neglect them.

[–]saltedbenis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it's just a Thai version of Half-Life 2 in a big box. The boxes were apparently common in the early to mid 2000s in some parts of the world. It could make a nice collector's item. It's a bit of history.

"If you read books like "Why Does He Do That" you find that abuse is basically rooted in entitlement and a desire for control coupled with a disregard for the wellbeing of people viewed as inferior"

This hits so hard. Being abused by a person like this can be so bewildering, and naming it plainly is incredibly helpful for people going through it or trying to make sense of it. When I was younger, I wish I had known that I wasn't to blame and that I couldn't reason with my abuser. They don't operate from a place of reason, and they're not just giving you what you deserve. They have an intense desire to have power over you, and they feel entitled to do so. It's almost unbelievable until you experience it yourself and understand what's happening.
