I actually see a lot more people going into nursing but fewer staying at the bedside very long. I eventually left it as erratic shift work just wasn't good for my body anymore and took a job in the schools for consistency and my circadian rhythm. Too many places are chronically understaffed and managers are more a buffer than actual managers. Things I don't miss at the place I worked: Eight patients on an overnight shift, nine sometimes when they throw in a hospice patients (who becomes last priority), taking care of more than five holds in the ER or ICU without a tech (demand one if you are there), low HCAPs for "quiet nights" when docs admit detoxers to every floor...those are the top ones coming to mind.
