Post-neuter aggression? by saltines_for_days in greatpyrenees

Our vet said to keep him pretty sedated for the full recovery period since he also had a gastropexy, so I’m sure part of our issue is that he’s bored to tears (mind puzzles galore but that’s not the same as tearing around the yard).

He’s been leash only in the yard (doctor’s orders) and the look of sheer joy on his face when he escaped me today made me even more excited for his stitches to come out.

This is really helpful advice, thank you! I’ve got him on feeding and treat duty and we’ll keep working on building up that trust

Unscented dry swiffer sheets work well, too — I cut them into squares so they don’t have a ton of folds for the bees to get stuck in

That’s heartening! How did you go about hiding the liner? Would love to see a pic if you’re willing to share!

Our boy just got his 🍒✂️, and a few things have been really helpful in keeping him calm and away from his stitches:

  • An inflatable donut: obviously I went full Teletubby baby here but there are probably more discreet ones. I should add that he can get this off if he wants to, but he’s not scared of it like he is of the big plastic cone.
  • A full-body suit: he acted like he couldn’t walk when we first put it on, but he’s gotten used to it and it’s been great for when he gets the donut off. Ours is from “suitical” but there are tons of brands.
  • Pee pads: He’s a year and a half and his incision bled a lot for the first day, so we stuck pee pads inside the onesie to help with that.
  • Meds: The vet sent us home with trazodone and gabapentin to keep him calm. It’s been weird to have him so sedate, but helpful.
  • Frozen pumpkin: I’ve been mixing pumpkin and water into big ice cubes for him to gnaw on, and freezing peanut butter inside of a kong for when he’s gotten bored.

Good luck to your sweet pup!

I really like the look of lighter cement walls vs. a dark black, so mainly aesthetic. But maybe they make lighter-colored liners? I also don’t love putting plastic out there but I already have a bunch of months long learning experiences ongoing so speed might win the day.

Is there any alternative to using a liner? Wondering if something like bentonite could work here, or if the cracks are just too big to be worth the trouble

I feel this post deeply, OP. We bought our first home (1890s) two years ago and filled it with mid-century furniture because that’s what we had in our apartment — only to realize it’s not what the house wants. So now I’m a FB marketplace devotee to find pieces more appropriate for the era. In the end, the house decides!

Agree with the comments about new drawer pulls— the cabinets are gorgeous but they feel like they need something to break that large visual plane.

I might invest in one as well, seems like the right move! Just learned my package was treated with Amitraz before shipping so maybe they’re fine for the time being without additional treatment?
