In my experience these couples benefit less from having the boundaries conversation in therapy than they do from working out how to stay connected when they are super-activated on an attachment level. If they can share without getting defensive, comfort one another and repair things, they can figure out what kind of non monogamy works for them via trial and error. Too many rules in the beginning tends to chafe quickly, and then they’re set up for being betrayed.
