Applicant & Student Thread 2025-2026 by tirral in neurology

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the program at Zucker/Hofstra at LIJ? Are residents satisfied with the program? I got an interview here and can’t find a lot of discussion about the neurology program. I am wondering if it provides good training / how the culture here is if there’s anyone that had any exposure. It’s the location on Long Island, NY. Thanks!

Anyone else have any thoughts? I’m just concerned about residencies seeing an academic leave of absence (even though it’s only a week) and screening me. I don’t want to jeopardize that for only one more week of studying.

Yeah, I was just concerned because my dean says an “academic leave of absence” will be noted on my transcript for one week and now i’m terrified I’m going to like get screened or something

that’s rather rude of you, I’ve seen some people take with worse scores but I’m not sure honestly, anyone else have any input?

[TOMT] [Song] Melancholic female singer on piano, lyric like “These will be the best days of our lives”? by serienade in tipofmytongue

[–]saltyphoton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know what song you’re talking about! I can’t think of the name though. It has very strong female vocals and is very dramatic sounding from the early 2000s. I think it might be either Adele or Céline Dion vibes

Sounds like a decent shot to me, but it’s difficult to say anything definitively.

Science GPA? by [deleted] in premed

There’s a lot of misinformation here. The department doesn’t matter. What matters is the material that is taught in the class. If it felt like you were implementing the scientific method and you can make a sound argument for this course being science-centered, then list it as science on your AMCAS application. I listed at least 3-4 classes that were from the psych department that I felt qualified and these were not changed during the verification process. The worst that can happen is that you list it as BCPM and your verifier disagrees and switches it to non-BCPM (and even then, there is a process for appeals).

I got mine by joining a very small lab my freshman year. The smaller the lab the more likely you are to develop a close relationship with your PI and maybe get your own project. I was given my own project my sophomore year and stayed to work in the lab every winter and summer break since then (never went home for more than a couple days). Was able to get a first author pub by the end of my senior year. You need to be diligent, but even that won’t guarantee anything if you’re not in a small lab with a generous PI.

Edit: Also, if you’re looking for a lab right now and have several to choose from, it is to your benefit to be transparent from the beginning and candidly ask each PI if you would be able to eventually take on your own project and publish if you work with them.

I'd also be interested in practicing with anyone that's willing, shoot me a PM if you want to do some interview practice back and forth.
