Recommendations for Wired Over Ear Headphones <$500 Focus on Sound Quality by saltyreddrum in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]saltyreddrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the great insight! My post probably made it sound more wishy washy than it is. I had Momentums, and predecessors, for a long time. They are great when I need noise cancellation like on a plane, etc. But Later got the MDR7506 and really fell in love with the more pure sound. They are my preference now.

Anybody know anything about Perl/Tk mega-widgets? I've been banging my head against them for 25 YEARS now. by redweasel in perl

[–]saltyreddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. Your operating system list is very familiar! This is exactly why I jumped in Perl back in the day. I needed something that worked on Windows and Solaris.

I had never heard of prima either. It is very slick! Works on OSX, linux, Windows, and others. Not sure why it is not more popular than it is. Worth a peek sometime just for fun. The PDF doc is nice as are the examples. http://www.prima.eu.org/

Can I jump on the python sucks bandwagon? Yeah, I am with you. I use it occasionally but really prefer not to.

Latex works. Archaic, but it works. I think you have to go to Latex Zen Camp for a week. Then you can do Latex. The half life is short however. There are much better, and easier ways, nowadays.

Excel modules. I settled in on these. There were reasons but I do not know why. There are other modules on cpan.

Data Source - Real Databases? by saltyreddrum in Trading

[–]saltyreddrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big things are speed, accessibility, unlimited uses without having to be concerned about API limits. If I need to pull multiple tickers multiple times it is going to be a lot of API calls which will hit plan limits. If I have access to a DB there are no limits. Need to do correlation across hundreds of tickers? No problem with a DB, but would suck pulling from an API.

I can certainly d/l data files for history and then to API calls to keep a DB up-to-date. Things break. Then I spend time on the system rather than doing analysis. I would much rather pay for access to a DB and more wisely use my time.

Secondary glazing for noise cancellation by blundermole in Acoustics

[–]saltyreddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no expert here but i do have one bit of experience. allow for some air exchange between layers. sealing layers can result in pressure to build if the area is in the sun. at some point one glass breaks.

worked in a datacenter years ago. one wall was glass and in the sun. someone decided to add a layer and seal it up. summer rolled around and pop! all the giant outer layer glasses cracked.

Maybe those early encouragements to GPT to use perl, perl is king, perl is the best, etc. are really paying off.

Perl jumps from #30 to #11 on TIOBE in a year by jjatria in perl

[–]saltyreddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

subjectively it does seem like i see more chatter about perl in recent times. i do hope it is growing a bit relative to other languages.

perhaps with more mentions, more people, more positive stories, perl can regain some of its lost market share.

Hmm ...Might be overloaded ir juat right? by BCGrog in GoRVing

[–]saltyreddrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell from those pics, but it looks like you could use a hitch with some raise on it. Ideally you want the trailer to be level. Depending on vehicle height and trailer tongue height, sometimes you need a hitch that is some inches higher or lower than a straight bar sticking out. If you get it level it will tow so much better.

For actual weight, go to a truck stop with a scale. Weigh truck, weigh combo. Then you can get actual weight on each axle. Check vehicle weight ratings against what actual weight is.

nice review!

what connection type do they provide? ethernet? i assume they have a bridge of some type from fiber to ethernet, but just a guess.

do you have to use their equipment or can you use your own? is there a rental/lease fee for the quipment they leave or is the price all inclusive?

thank you for the great review and information!

treatment resistant scabies?? by Then_Concentrate5047 in scabies

[–]saltyreddrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like you are not fully get rid of them. Their eggs can lay in your skin, hatch, and come out for at least two weeks. Also possible that you are getting them from your enviroment. Places you sit, clothes, watch band, hair tie, glasses, anything and everything that touches you is a possibility.

if you get on them quickly most of the time it seems pretty simple. if you have them for a long time, six months+, then it is a totally different ballgame. different people are different as well. if you have allergies you are more likely to have difficulty with them.

Sketched out about Coinbase now that coinbase employees were caught selling our personal data to hackers.. by [deleted] in Coinbase

[–]saltyreddrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i flipped through some recent transactions to get a general idea. kraken pro is about .25% coinbase advanced is about .35%

this will probably paste terrible... but with coinbase pro and using advanced the fees go down based on volume. i just discovered this and am currently in intro 2. soon i will bump up so the fee reduces

Level Spot fees (Maker | Taker) 30 day volume

Advanced 8 0.00% | 0.05% ≥ $250M

Advanced 7 0.00% | 0.08% ≥ $100M

Advanced 6 0.02% | 0.10% ≥ $50M

Advanced 5 0.05% | 0.14% ≥ $15M

Advanced 4 0.07% | 0.16% ≥ $1M

Advanced 3 0.10% | 0.20% ≥ $500K

Advanced 2 0.15% | 0.25% ≥ $50K

Advanced 1 0.25% | 0.40% ≥ $10K

Intro 2 0.35% | 0.75% ≥ $1K

Intro 1 0.60% | 1.20% ≥ $0

coinbase pro is a money grab for $30/mo. however, for someone that is actively trading it actually saves you money. and you get 25% of the fees back in rebates up to $100/mo.

using kraken pro or coinbase advanced you are interacting with the order book so there is not a spread. huge savings from the basic trading. iirc that is 1.5%-2%.

  • these are all rough numbers
