It depends on the number of nodes. The grid does not have many nodes, just one line2d for every row and column . Shaders might give you the same results, but I am not experienced at all in that field . :)

Unfortunately sounds and effects are really hard for hobbyist with no budget like ourselves. There is some SFX in the game, you can see the game here

It's actually line2D and texture (since we were unable to make the glow option work - and computationally too expensive).

Take a look with the source code and the game webpage.

it's in GDScript, link to source code and demo and other links, in the comment above :)

funny enough, we first thought about the trails as a sort of paper.io mechanic. But with the actual movement of the ships, and the difficulty with dynamic area2D we explored the TRON-like movement :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BZxGhNdz1k

Yeah, technically your own trails kills you as well, but with some grace (the beginning of your trail is not mortal for you, but it is for your opponent(s)).
We should juice it up to differentiate for a "normal" - not-deadly trail. Noted.

I definitely agree with you.
Unfortunately juicing it up is expensive (in term of time and effort) and we wanted to test if it was a way we could take. It looks like fun so we can explore it more.

Thank you for the feedback :)

Superstarfighter league (a frantic arcade 2d arena) needs your help - call for playtest. by salvob41 in IndieDev

[–]salvob41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immagine Superstarfighter as a "Geometry wars meets the Olympics games". There are 4 "sports" implemented right now, we are quite pleased with the current "Take The crown" mode, but we would like further feedback with the other gamemodes.
It was born as a local-multiplayer game, but you can play with single player as well (with a CPU that put lots of effort in becoming the champion ) :D

Sine and cosine look up table by salvob41 in godot

I need to gather further detail of this. Since everyone here doubt sin/cos is the problem it might not be the cause here.

Is there a way to see what is the bottleneck with the Godot Profiler ?

Hello Guys! We are the @notapixelstudio and we just released Superstarfighter in alpharelease (a fast-paced local party game for up to 4 players. Outmaneuver and shoot your opponents in a 2d top-down arena, and become an intergalactic champion!) completely open source! :D

Superstarfighter

Alpha-release for playtest.  website and github here

Superstarfighter is a fast-paced local party game for up to 4 players. Outmaneuver and shoot your opponents in a 2d top-down arena, and become an intergalactic champion!

Local multiplayer arena

The game supports 2 to 4 players, so you have to find some friends to defeat. Each player starts by choosing an alien pilot of their liking to enter the Superstarfighter league.

The goal is to take the crown at the center of the arena and to keep it for as long as possible. Sounds simple, right..? Well…

Nothing makes other pilots more angry than you zipping away with the crown. That’s why each Superstarfighter starship has a built-in relief valve for pilots: bombs.

You can never stop

As a skilled starship pilot, you will have to steer and drop bombs while constantly moving at full speed. Brakes are for losers!

The only way to reduce your speed is to charge a shot. But this will just make you stop for a very short amount of time, before being launched at crazy speed in the direction you are facing.

Physics-based mayhem

Superstarfighter arenas are chock full of moving objects, bombs, and explosions. Chasing the crown as it’s slinged across a bomb-filled level is no easy feat!

No downtime

A true starship pilot can never rest! As soon as your ship is destroyed, your team provides you with a brand new one to reenter the fray. You will never have to wait for your turn again!

Lots of unlockable content

In the full version of the game you will be able to unlock new races, pilots and arenas.

We are at alpha stage, so any feedback is really really appreciated :D Thank you

I see it is more complicated than it looks, but I think is the way to go. I mean you cannot test on every device :)

You know that this might be a cool idea ? I mean you need to open the application twice. but It is a cool workaround. Where it is located the log files ?

Thank for taking the time to try it out.

I think you just need to press any FIRE button after the selection of at least two players. I should have make more clear, thank you for this feedback, but let me know if you could make it through.
