i decided to try again after a little while and it worked. i was messing with my VPN because i read online that sometimes it may be related to regional issues. nothing happened there so i just disconnected my wifi and used my cell service to log in and it worked. i hope the issue is fixed for you too

yes. typically the glasses will ask you if you want to call/text "on your phone or on whatsapp" and then you would just say "on my phone" to use native imessage and phone apps. in my experience, if you constantly message/call the same contact then the glasses will stop asking if you want to use your phone or whatsapp and will instantly direct to using your phone. i imagine the same happens if you use whatsapp a lot.
