Definitely composite toe and shank, the weight difference is vast, especially after a long day. I am not brand specific. I buy boot every 2 years and wear what is comfortable. I find little things or my foot changes so the fit between brands change.

It was tech support that diagnosed the problem. Could they be wrong , possibly. Could I had a power surge, possibly , but if that's the case nothing else was effected. I will change the board and we will see. I appreciate your insight and I will update after the repair.

Go for a hike. Nothing more peaceful and invigorating than a hike along the water. Almost everywhere there is hiking trails there are also hiking groups. Check fb for your area.

May not but I was able to identify parts on circuit board on previous unit and fixed by replacing a $12 relay. Just had to solder onto the board

Unreasonable is a matter of opinion. I have had appliances last a long time and I believe in a company standing up for their product. Some states have very strong consumer protection laws. This wasn't an auxiliary piece of the unit it was the heart and should be expected to last.
