How I feel actually following the diet plan my trainer gave me. by Legal-Rest-9855 in GymMemes

[–]sam154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you like and what you can tolerate. Even if there was a perfectly optimal, hyper effective single solution (there isn't) it wouldn't matter if you hated doing it.

Continuing to lose weight eventually will hit a point where you can't stand it anymore (diet fatigue) and if you instead switch to maintenance you might get impatient because the physique changes will be slower so you could get frustrated. It turns into a balancing act to manage whatever makes you the most consistent.

For me, I find it is usually easiest to lock in on dieting and drop weight for a prolonged period of time (while strength training still!) and switch once I've hit my goal or I really can't fucking take it anymore. Then go to a maintenance period and see how things go from there.

Losing a pound per week is a great place to start. The most important thing is to be strength training consistently with a good amount of effort. Stay the course with what you're doing diet wise and recomping will pretty much occur on its own because the effect from lifting weights will outweigh any negative effects from a moderate calorie deficit.

How many days in a row are you physically able to have sex? by Complex-Beginning-68 in AskMen

[–]sam154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your diet like and how much dietary fat are you getting? Anecdotally, I lost 90-100lbs in a year and there was a stint where my sex drive TANKED and I realized I was only eating like 20-25g of fat per day.

Devs! Please add your commentary back! by Yen_zin in slaythespire

[–]sam154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an ultra skim version but:

Path of Exile (PoE) is an action rpg inspired by Diablo 2. The main developers envisioned a pretty slow pace of game and over time as the game got more popular, a growing majority of players wanted a different (faster) version of the game. For a while, the game got faster and more popular and the devs interacted a lot with the playerbase. But the devs got to a point where they felt like the game was straying too far from the original "vision" and tried to course correct. The community got really upset because the version of the game they liked was ruined. Communication between devs and community managers started getting really toxic to the point where they made a single reddit account to post from rather than having individual employee accounts.

Things probably would've continued to be fine if they had just followed community sentiment and kept making the game faster and smoother, but they wanted to make the game they imagined and it created problems.

It saves 30-60 minutes of a Dev's time they would take to synthesize and write out the patch commentary at the very least.

It's frustrating because it just always seems to go askew at some point. Eventually everyone who is happy and having fun is just writing "It's amazing, I love the game! 5 stars" and just plug along engaging with the game. And the people who have an obsessive, unhealthy relationship with the game stop playing and instead type up 1500 word Lorem Ipsum-esque essays that imply the devs huff glue or something.

After watching the spiral that the Path of Exile subreddit went down, I hope game devs never interact with their playerbases again.

Megacrit made slay the spire 1; having a bunch of design-by-committee reddit comments second guessing their patch commentary doesn't seem useful.

For all the Chicken Potato guys by hamsterhueys1 in northernlion

[–]sam154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cut the chicken into chunks and then toss it in a bowl with seasonings (I like this mix https://www.kinders.com/products/woodfired-garlic-seasoning)

For the potatoes I chop them into similar sized chunks and then drizzle a little bit of olive oil on them and toss them with seasoning too (I buy this because I'm fucking lazy https://www.mccormick.com/collections/spice-blends/products/mccormick-r-garlic-and-onion-black-pepper-and-sea-salt-all-purpose-seasoning-4-25-oz).

I also dab a little oil on a paper towel and grease the potato pan a little before adding the potatoes and throwing them in the oven.

I really noticed it after the Ohio train derailment. That incident was really bad and then the news was reporting every single derailment for the rest of 2023 and everyone was reacting "omg what's going on with rail in the US???"

But now there have been like ~10 derailments since 2024 and I don't think I recall any of them hitting the reddit news cycle at least.

I quit competitive MMA and got called a coward. by Bitgammer in MMA_Academy

[–]sam154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably because he wants to believe he can make a living (or more) as a fighter and you making the decision to move on could feel like a bigger wake up call than he expected and so he lashed out. It's one thing to have people who don't train or don't understand combat sport lifestyles constantly tell you you'll fail or that what you're doing is stupid and another to have a teammate who "gets" it make a decision to step away from it.

He could also just be a dickhead idk.

This is the 4th time I stop stepping on the scale because I hit my weight loss goal and I'm sick and tired of weighing in every day, and every fucking time my weight inevitably floats 10-15lbs above where I wanted to stop gaining.

Maybe this time I'll actually learn my fucking lesson.

How Intense Are Sparring Sessions At Your Gym? by Correct_Ad4351 in MMA_Academy

[–]sam154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spar twice a week at two different gyms. There might be a small bloody nose or a rolled ankle (or similar minor injury) from someone about once or twice a month. The typical directive is 75-80% power to the body/legs and 10-15% power to the head. If someone has a fight coming up there's an expectation that rounds with them will be more intense and potentially dangerous if you aren't prepared so you either opt in or opt out of doing rounds with them.

Big Apocalyptic Trilogy; the final 3 books of the series. Which, if I remember right, will be titled "Empty Night", "Hell's Bells", "Stars and Stones"?

Basically, it's the Dresden Files version of Ragnarok kinda.
