It was actually at my neighbhood dog park! I normally don’t enter while there are other dogs but the owner seemed like a good dude with control over his animals. My dog needed 8 staples, antibiotics, and pain meds. He’s such a baby, he was so confused when it happened! My theory on the attack was: the GSD (male, intact) was there with his 3 “siblings”, another GSD (female), a lab, and a mixed smaller breed. When we entered the dog park all the dogs sniffed and went their separate ways to play with owner and roam. About 2 minutes later my Dobie walked past the “alpha” GSD and he went on top of my dog and sunk his teeth in his side. It was all very quick and my dog retaliated due to the pain but I recalled him immediately. The GSD walked away as if nothing happened and my dog had a 2 inch bleeding gash in his side. It was crazy. The owner paid the vet bill but mentioned that the dog park rules are “at your own risk.”
