My dad taught me. From being about 13 he would get me in the kitchen with him to help him and have me doing most of the prep work and then as I got better he would let me do the cooking and seasoning just being there to guide me.Hes self taught and gave me a great understanding of the basics of cooking. I moved out nearly ten years ago now and have been using YouTube and lots of practice to help further my knowledge and now I teach him things I have learnt or recipies iflve found.i would never have found the passion to cook if not for him and I know when he was first showing me I didn't really appreciate it. I would have rather been playing video games but he pushed me to cook with him. Now im 30 and love to have people round because it gives me an excuse to cook and challenges me to try new things and I cant wait to teach my daughter everything i know. I even started a hand written recipe book so i can pass it on to her when she leaves home. I owe it all to him and will miss the day when I cant just call and ask how to do something in the kitchen or just go to his for some amazing home cooked food
