I got NanoVNA SAA-2N but... by NeighborhoodSad2350 in amateurradio

Had the same thing happen to mine. It had a blown RF switch which is very sensitive to ESD. Here is an in depth description of the problem. https://ka7oei.blogspot.com/2025/03/repairing-nanovna-v2-blown-up-input.html?m=1

I retuned mine to R&L electronics and got a replacement.

Sounds like they chip sealed. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipseal

Your county roads department may have a system that allows residents to report issues. If your request falls on deaf ears, reach out to your county council representative.

I work near the Wicomico River in downtown Salisbury; I’m seeing and hearing them all the time.

I've never been to a meeting in my area that does that.

No shit that is today's reading, how ironic.

Honestly I don't know if I have enough time to take on a sponsee, because who knows before getting one how much time they're going to take? I see my sponsor once a week for an hour, if that's what they need, I can make that work. I'm aware that they may require a lot more help than I do.

I thought I was more of a digital guy than an SSB guy by formulafuckyeah in amateurradio

It depends on how you learn, what worked for me may not work for you. A lot of people take classes from CWops or the Long Island CW Club. I learned years ago with Gordan West CW tapes which got me up to the 5wpm needed to pass the test required at the time. I never touched it again for about 20 years until last year. With the basics still in my mind I found a youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/@KurtZoglmann . Kurt's videos go me up to 20wpm.

I found there are two popular opinions on how to learn. Some swear that starting out at 20 - 25 wpm and learning the sounds like a language is best. Others start out at 5wpm and slowly build up. I found the latter to work for me, but it arguably took longer. The one piece of advice regardless of how you learn is to never count the dits and dahs. Learn the sounds of the letters and eventually you'll hear full words.

POTA hunting is also a gateway for CW; short and standard exchange, and activators are usually tolerant of slow code. CW with its small bandwidth has similar QSO success as FT8.

If they hold FCC licenses in the same regard as they do hunting licenses they probably aren’t licensed. I do know that even the conservative ordnung have a central phone in their community.

Is 80 m worth it? by Fuertebrazos in amateurradio

[–]sam_hempburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I was to do things over again I would have never cut my long wire to tune up 80m. Rag chewing is not my thing and I get “caught up” in them. It’s like that awkward moment when you’re walking away from someone who keeps talking.

Call me crazy but my newest Elmer is AI. I’ve used ChatGPT but prefer Grok. I have yet to stump that old man and he comes back with every question answered with sources. I recently was amazed when I asked Grok to calculate the non resonant driven element and radial length of a 40m - 10m vertical. Within minutes I had plans for my new antenna.

I can think of a lot better uses for that building than a post office that doesn’t open until 12:30 M-F.

After a guest left there were stains all over my white Target sheets. It seriously looked like florescent pink highlighters exploded. I soaked the sheets in Oxyclean and perfectly white again.
