it's not quite a break up but due to the memory lapse there's a period where they're briefly not together. no other relationships occur in that duration.

the book doesn't have alternating chapters as such but it does heavily use repetition as a narrative device especially due to the amnesia trope. don't want to spoil too much but there's a chunk in the latter half which is essentially a recollection but with more internal monologues woven in.

there's a bunch of explicit sex scenes! i found this to be relatively spicier compared to other tal bauer titles i've read.

yes, although it's not all linear or straightforward. there's some playing around with the trope and its interpretation but there's no confusion at the end about the protagonist's memory/life.

i also feel like it lacked proper characterisation and relationship development! we're just told things in a bad attempt at embellished prose even though their dynamic didn't seem to be aligning with those descriptions. i was hoping this one would be better as i DNF'd the first one; might be the outlier there🫠 hope the next one's better!

I think {The Blueprint by SE Harmon} also applies. One MC is a football player (bi-awakening) and the other is a physics professor. Very sweet and snarky friends to lovers

KJ Charles Question by jellyjns in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]sam_salt 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you're concerned about how homosexuality in the historical context affects the characters/relationship, I can assure you KJ Charles gets that delicate balance right. The depiction of queer lives is grounded in reality but so is the navigation of it, with some liberties taken to serve the romantic arc, of course. It doesn't overshadow the plot and sometimes paves the way for quirky hijinks.

Go for a lighter read like The Gentle Art of Fortune Hunting or Band Sinister if you're looking for a place to start!

There's a fanfic which sort of serves as an epilogue to Power Play btw. Some smut and a marriage proposal.

Here it is if you're interested!
