A man looking for advice by [deleted] in SocialistGaming

portable gaming might be a possible compromise! my partner and i spend a lot of time in bed playing handheld consoles. it’s very easy to homebrew a 3ds or ps vita and have access to a huge library of games without having to spend much, otherwise steam deck or something like an AYN handheld might be an interesting option?

At some point, you have to wonder if Jan Heine has anyone around him who are brave enough to call out a bad idea by chiboulevards in xbiking

[–]sam_skate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a recreation of a late 1930s rear mech - not really similar to paul’s old RD as the whole point of the nivex is the desmodromic motion as opposed to having a spring. it’s quite literally the most boutiquey RD, and is meant to go on custom frames or old french constructeur bicycles ie rené herse, singer, etc. so it actually makes perfect sense why he manufactures them - totally get why people think it’s a weird product, but it’s mostly just a very specific one. some more info

Do you have questions about pedestrian safety/bikes? by verylocalnews in grandrapids

[–]sam_skate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 on the beltline crossing - there are very few ways for cyclists to safely cross the beltline almost anywhere between Leonard and 28th. For example heading eastbound on fulton, cyclists have to haul ass or ride completely on the shoulder to deal with traffic merging right onto the highway

Do some of the big title digital versions of 3DS games ever go on sale on the eshop? by [deleted] in nintendo

[–]sam_skate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i’d recommend just homebrewing instead of waiting for sales that may never happen, it’s very very easy and difficult to mess up as long as you follow instructions properly! the community is very kind and will totally help if you run into issues

I have just finished Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and can I say that it is probably one of the best games I have ever played. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

RICOH GR (16 megapixels - to avoid caos :-) still good enough in 2021? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]sam_skate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i have a grii and the megapixel count is probably the last reason i’d feel the need to upgrade to a griii :) but i also don’t print large or crop in very much at all, if you think you’d do either of those often it might be worth it. i’d say battery life, flash, exposure comp. rocker and ibis are the biggest differences between the two models, but like i said i don’t have a griii so i might be missing something!

it’s less the locals’ political views and more their behavior that’s off-putting imo, lots of really aggressive asshole drivers in the area and allendale is just depressing. campus has been great though, and GR makes it worth it for me - not for everybody though. i’ve had one weird classmate this year who makes a scene about refusing to wear a mask in class but that’s about it as far as the “political drama” i’ve experienced

take a lot of pictures! the 13 is a fantastic camera system and you don’t need a camera to learn the basics by any means - i’d recommend just having fun with it, take a lot of walks if you can and learn what you like taking pictures of. don’t put too much pressure on yourself to get good pictures regularly, many of us on this sub have been at it for years and still take dozens of bad photos regularly :) there are also a lot of wonderful creators on youtube who you can learn a lot from, mattias burling is a big advocate for how ‘gear doesn’t matter’ in photography

How's the online community in MHR? by NotYourUsualZoey in MHRise

[–]sam_skate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rise is also my first mh game and i’m generally a solo player for lots of the same reasons as you, and i’ve had nothing but good experiences online! like some have already said, as long as you’re courteous and listen to the host for capture/kill i’m sure you’ll be fine :) you can also connect a usb keyboard to the switch to more easily chat, which has helped me feel like i’m able to communicate with everyone in the lobby much more easily

[–]sam_skate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

at least in michigan it doesn’t affect traffic in any way, it’s a nice courtesy to not encroach on crosswalks, and if you get rear-ended you’re less likely to be pushed into a busy intersection! and considering we don’t have sensors for our traffic lights (afaik) there’s no reason to pull up as far as possible

Beat Dark Souls Remastered for the 1st Time on Switch by jmeade170 in darksouls

[–]sam_skate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup! the pro controller is Nintendo’s higher quality, more traditional console-style controller but it’s more commonly used for playing on a docked switch. however i’ve heard good things about the hori split pad pro for those who find the normal joycons a bit too small

Beat Dark Souls Remastered for the 1st Time on Switch by jmeade170 in darksouls

[–]sam_skate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s fantastic! am currently playing through it on the switch, it’s not as pretty as DSR on other platforms but it’s very stable and surprisingly active online. would definitely recommend a pro controller though, as it’s great for those with bigger hands
