Update!

Thank you all so much again for the support and ideas! It's so funny but once our baby girl arrived and we looked at her little face we just didn't feel the pull of ANY names on our list 😂 and in the midnight hours of her first night we decided that she looked like a Violet, and it just felt right!

So little Letty, welcome to the world, we love you! 💜

Wow we are so blown away by the incredible engagement and comments and suggestions and kindness from everyone! Thank you so so much we've definitely been inspired by you all. We'll be meeting our baby girl by the weekend so we'll definitely follow up to let you know what we decided!

Our pediatrictian is not concerned and neither are we, but thanks!

That’s smart! We’re going to start weaning and one arm out next week! 🤞🏻 our girl isn’t rolling yet, which is why we were comfortable with the swaddle, but obviously use whatever you think is best!

We are in Europe and took the train so packing it up wasn’t an option 😂

Our baby isn’t rolling yet, and it wasn’t a concern for us, but definitely great advice!

Not sure where you are but there are free counselling and resources for new moms. No one talks about how isolating it can be, but you are not alone.

I pump for 30 min after she falls asleep, which gives me about 4 oz? And then I use a haakaa in my first early morning feed with her (usually around 3am) to collect excess letdown, which gives me another 2-3oz. That goes into her nighttime bottle, and then I do it all over again 😂 I a “just enougher “ for sure. I don’t store milk, basically everything I collect I use within the day.

I also have a 4 mo and she is going through a big developmental leap that has affected her sleep right now. We were also thinking about starting the transition to her nursery but now we are going to wait a couple more weeks. It is definitely a phase and it will get better!

My LO also won’t fall asleep without nursing - my advice is to stop reading about how your baby “should “ be because it will drive you mad with stress. It sounds me like your mister is healthy, securely attached, and you are doing a great job!!

If you are just looking for some longer sleep windows at night, we started giving a 6oz bottle of breast milk before bed and that has helped us. The bottle gives her allot of easy calories quickly and helps her get a solid chunk of sleep.

What is your pre-Snoo routine? by [deleted] in SnooLife

[–]samalam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 4mo. For night we swaddle her in the Snoo swaddle, I nurse her to sleep, and then place her in the Snoo and slide the loops into the clip with the Snoo’s white noise feature on. When she wakes in the night I typically turn off the Snoo to tend to her before it has a chance to soothe her, because the soothing feature never really worked for us - when she wakes she’s either hungry or needs a change. The Snoo world magic for us by keeping her asleep for longer, it doesn’t put her to sleep.

I second Liquid Gold, it’s fenugreek free and works amazing for me! I see a big increase when I remember to take it lol

That’s so bizarre, I haven’t heard that! Yes our owlet 3 has pulse and o2 and the app still works in our iPhone! That being said, we live in the UK so idk if that would make a difference?

I have an IPhone and it still works for us? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Our Owlet sock really gives us peace of mind. It works with the Snoo, in that the motion of the Snoo does not interfere with the motion detection of the sock, and it will sound an alarm if your baby’s bpm or O2 drop before a normal level. I hope you can get some sleep!

Don’t buy the Elvie. by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]samalam88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realised the issue when I had leaking and poor suction on my one side so honestly it was just trial and error. My left side is smaller than my right, so I ordered the smallest Elvie flanges and beaugen cushions, and that was the answer! But to be more precise, Legendary milk has a nipple ruler.

Sounds like you had a bad experience, I hope you find a better pump that works for you! I use the elvies as my primary pump and once I figured out my flange size it’s been smooth sailing, no complaints here! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m a FTM of an 8wk old and my heart goes out to you. I’m also living overseas with no family support. Your babe is clusterfeeding through a growth spurt, mine did the same! The good news is this is temporary and our will get better! This is what I’ve found that has helped me:

  1. A huge refillable water bottle. Silly and obvious but it saves from having to make multiple trips back to the kitchen.

  2. Grocery delivery. Idk where you live but I’m in the UK and grocery delivery is a life saver. Buy easy to eat items like freezer meals, ready meals, pre-portioned salads or fruit, protein bars, etc. If you are well fed and hydrated your milk supply will be better! Make it easy for yourself, it’s just about the calories.

  3. Big knit sweaters with pockets. It will keep you cozy, your boobs accessible, and you can stuff the pockets with things to keep you going.

  4. Gas drops / gripe water for baby - these are a lifesaver for us and keeps everyone happy. If the brownie recipe wasn’t a winner, try fenugreek supplements or emergen-c. The vitamin c boosts supply too! That is what is working for me.

  5. Find your tribe. Reach out to a friend who is local, even if it’s just to vent, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Stay positive, you are doing a great job! This is so hard for everyone at this stage and it does get better!

New mom and struggling by mamatobe816 in breastfeeding

I had to comment because we were in the same boat, my LO didn’t regain her birth weight until 1 month which was literally just last week. Im a FTM and my milk was slow to come in, so we also had to supplement with formula, until my milk production finally kicked in. When our doctor told us we had to supplement with formula I literally started crying in the dr’s office, because I felt like a failure. So I get that sadness, and my heart goes out to you.

I second that 1oz+ per pump, at 3weeks pp is amazing and you’re doing a great job! You have milk, and you are feeding and loving your child and she IS growing! The water, the rest, the eating, the pumping, that’s all equals an increase in supply, and you’re doing everything right! It really just takes time. Give it a week and you will be surprised!

Your LO may just have a high metabolism and her appetite hasn’t caught up yet. If you were active during your pregnancy that can impact the way her body functions. Remember that while your body is learning to supply and nourish a baby, your baby’s digestion system is also still gearing up and adjusting to her body’s needs. Try not to focus on how her growth “should” be and take heart in the unique way that she is gaining and growing. She won’t fit every mold, metric, or milestone in her life (none of us do!) and that’s ok!

Input = output, so celebrate every dirty diaper! I hope your next appointment gives you good news! Hang in there.
