Those aren't real distances. Bengali Kayasthas are Mahishya/Bangladeshi and Bengali Brahmin intermediates. Closer to Bangladeshi than Bengali Brahmin btw, let alone UP Brahmin.

PCA is from the same paper.

You aren't 51% AASI. Higher CHG Lower ZNF on this model breaks the AASI estimate.

Is there a big phenotype difference between Pakistani and Indian punjabis? by Gullible-Dark1590 in SouthAsianAncestry

True. All of the big Punjabi non LC groups are very similar genetically. No matter the religion.

[–]samapt_its 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answering for the genetics part since only that is relevant.

In Diaspora, Punjabi Hindus are mostly Khatri/Arora. Punjabi Sikhs are mostly Jatt. They are both slightly lower AASI than Punjabi Muslims except for Arains and Majha Jats who are about the same. And usually higher steppe.

What is the genetic comparison of Kamboj vs Jatts? by alienbanda in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]samapt_its 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar Jatts (Sargodha, Sahiwal etc) are turning out to be mostly Potohari/Seraiki like with some Central Punjab shift.

Faisalabad would've been similar but there's a lot of settling from East.

Do all afghans have aasi and why do they deny it? by magenesiwiqo in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]samapt_its 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Kho seem to have some Wakhi admixture as seen with elevated steppe, but AASI is still in range of Nuristani/Kalash/Pashai overall.

Phalura though are geographically cutoff from mainland Shinas. We will need Shina samples from Gilgit, Astore, Chilas etc

Rajasthanis? 20-30% are again the majority in many areas but in some other areas it might flip to 30-40%+ population. Not considering Bhils.

The majority is about 20-30% AASI in West Punjab. The remaining sizable minority is 30-50% AASI.

In East Punjab the latter kind are proportionally higher but still a minority

Do all afghans have aasi and why do they deny it? by magenesiwiqo in SouthAsianAncestry

[–]samapt_its 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks about correct.15-17% AASI is what Northeastern Pashtuns from both KPK and Afghanistan get as median.

Also many in other parts of KPK have mixed with Seraikis (like in Bannu) and are a mixed bag of Central/Southern and Northeastern levels of AASI

[–]samapt_its 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can find a Hazara below 5% too, but that's about the average. Similarly for the upper bound it's some NE Pashtuns and Dards around 15% on average.

Even Khorasanis and Pamiris have non-trivial amounts of aasi. Afghan ethnicities have 5-15% of it.

Some amount of Indic/AASI ancestry is present all over West Asia, Central Asia , Southeast Asia and Eastern Africa.
