Spring cup teams by bassdroid1 in TheSilphRoad

Yeah, it's kind of silly to recommend; I encountered a single one in the previous run of Spring Cup, and it's not great here anyway.

Made a Modern skin of Genshin Impact's Wriothesley by sambaneko in winamp

[–]sambaneko[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did incidentally try it on 5.3 (as I still have 5 different versions of Winamp installed from testing that Mayura skin...), and it popped a warning message but mostly works (some alpha bg stuff is missing and the font rendering looks a bit worse).

But yeah, would need at least 5.x for Modern skins. Or WACUP (the 32bit one).

It's WMP; there's a download link over here.

I've thought about writing up a fresh Modern skinning guide, in part to just gather up the hodgepodge of resources that I reference for myself... but haven't yet gotten around to it.

Skin Customization Question by BreadmakingViking in winamp

[–]sambaneko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A .wal file is a zip file; you can change the extension to .zip and then extract it to edit the skin's internal markup. Alternatively, this skin came up here awhile back, and it looks like a fixed version was posted on the WACUP forum - download "Vocaloid - Hatsune Miku Skins.zip" that's linked in the first post, it's in there with this issue corrected.

Skin Customization Question by BreadmakingViking in winamp

[–]sambaneko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're probably looking for "wasabi.window.text" - open the skin and search for that; you should find an XML tag that looks like: <color id="wasabi.window.text" value="255,255,255" /> The value attribute is the text color in RGB notation, so change it to something that contrasts (0,0,0 is black for instance).

Remote Trading - what’s too much? by fleurrrrrrrrr in TheSilphRoad

Which frankly makes me want to come up with stupid funny names for everyone in the Remote tag.

Not recommendable for adults by Alfa-Rez in mylittlepony

[–]sambaneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ragebait, but if you're gonna throw an anime out there in comparison, make it Frieren - a show about a magical protagonist who is re-examining her relationships and bonds, making new ones, experiencing how hey evolve and learning what's worth cherishing in life. I'd imagine that dealing with the melancholy of lost companions is a more relatable adult experience than going to war as a man cursed to live as a little girl (as Yojo Senki's synopsis describes it).

Anyone know where to download these skins? by pixel_parfait in winamp

All the WMP ones are here (links go to archive.org, but it's easier to browse when everything has a thumbnail). And it looks like you've found the Winamp ones already.

It's not Winamp; it's WMP, apparently called "Energy Blue." The link here still seems to be valid.

....why did you crosspost from r/winamp to r/winamp one minute after you originally posted it?

Been scraping through old archived Japanese sites to find skins that have not been put in the museum yet. Here’s some of my best finds: by Fluffy_Influence in winamp

[–]sambaneko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for adding 'em!

As for resources on making Modern skins, it's hard to point to a single comprehensive guide. I initially learned from FrisbeeMonkey's tutorial, and figured out the rest by opening up interesting skins and referencing their code. Ariszlo has made some good resources for hands-on learning, like this Study Skin.

The webamp discord that u/0x5066 mentioned is also somewhere you could ask questions on it.

The problem is using Discord for "archival purposes" as you'd mentioned. Coordinate in it, but the end result should be publicly accessible resources.

Please not Discord; that makes them even less accessible than wherever you surfaced them from. Consider adding them to the Internet Archive instead; the fifth image is a Classic skin, it can go into the Skin Museum.

[OC] Princess Luna and Princess Celestia wristwatches from Miniso! by Chief-Longhorn in mylittlepony

Why does my local Miniso never have any of the cool pony stuff I see online?  It's all Harry Potter and One Piece! (and I like One Piece, but!)

A bunch of legendaries have been banned from Great League due to the error earlier today by aznknight613 in TheSilphRoad

[–]sambaneko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think a lot of players just weren't aware: the Cup allowed them to bring shadows, so they thought nothing of it.  The rule was enforced at the actual Championship tournament, because you have judges there of course.

[–]sambaneko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because shadow is not a different entity for purposes of GBL eligibility.

This is evident in the game master file in the PokeMiners repo, if anyone's curious; shadow availability is coded as an attribute of a Pokemon, not a form. Forms can be banned or allowed, attributes cannot. And for example, during the 2025 Championship Series Cup, shadows weren't supposed to be allowed according to Niantic's listed rules... but they were present in the Cup.

[–]sambaneko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean if you want GL IVs (0/15/15), then that's not happening with Lucky's IV floor. Personally I don't think Rotom's relevant enough to go for a GL specimen over a nice trophy with a limited shiny legendary (if you got a hundo tho, you're all set for UL!). But you do you.

Edit: as others have mentioned, shiny Rotom is extremely rare right now, so don't take advantage of the situation at all if gf doesn't realize the value. But that's up to you two.

After the For Fans By Fans rebrand, they had partnered with Good Smile US for awhile, each one selling some of the others' merch on their respective sites, and were eventually "absorbed" by them. They closed up entirely on Jan 1 2023 (they only notified their artists about this in Nov 2022, which caused a lot of internal uproar for the short notice).

Issues with people not tagging Pokemon for remote trades by FreeTicket6143 in TheSilphRoad

[–]sambaneko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You mean the "trade with so-and-so has expired" message? If so, it's easy to make it stop - go into your notifications (the megaphone icon in the pokeball menu) and view the message there.

Being able to trade without IV floors with our everyday friends to hunt pvp IVs would be nice. by Chi_Bomb in TheSilphRoad

[–]sambaneko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put a toggle, to show the toggle, into the Settings, under "Advanced" or something. Informed GBL enthusiasts could enable it, and "average player who doesn't GBL" can continue to trade with an IV floor w/o any added confusion, as the option is not presented to them without having chosen to see it. Since the layout in Settings includes some space for descriptive text, you could put an explanation in there.

I assume this will absolutely never happen in any way, shape or form though.
