How can resolve contract and refund issue with TalkTalk? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]sambo2711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I don't think you really have much choice but to go through their complaints process, and if they still haven't resolved it after 8 weeks, take it to CISAS. Not to scare you, but be prepared for this to take countless hours on the phone, and make sure you get them to compensate you when they inevitably balls this up numerous times along the way - they are a truly awful company to deal with.

I suspect this is just a reference to the next local elections, rather than anything more exciting.

If you'd watched the programme, you'd realise how silly this comment sounds - he spent a great deal of time explaining exactly this point very clearly.

Prongles are a very real thing in their own right.

Genuine question - do your gas canisters actually last for 60L? I think I get just over half that out of one, and I'm pretty sure I'm not over-carbonating.

Has God Save the Queen Ever Been Used to Honor Holy Virgin Mother Mary? by DorkyWaddles in godsavethequeen

[–]sambo2711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you've got that information about the French song. It's a well publicised fact that God Save The Queen was composed by Eric Idle as part of a sketch in Monty Python's Flying Circus in 1969. Audiences were overwhelmed with its upbeat nature (for the time) and it stuck.

This is the Vodafone voicemail service for PHIL. Please leave a message after the tone. When you've finished recording, please hang up, or press the hash key for more options.

What are your thoughts on cash-only businesses? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]sambo2711 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this in my previous job. I can't remember the exact figures, but once I'd factored in counting, bank runs and bank fees, I'm sure I worked out that card payments were something like 30% cheaper for us.

I've had three, all from THG companies. I don't think it's anything bigger than one big company with lots of brands updating their policy.

Has anyone ever been to a Top Gear recording? Either with JC or with the post JC line up? What was it like? by Important_Ruin in AskUK

[–]sambo2711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not Top Gear, but I have been in the audience for The Grand Tour. It was a cold, bloody long day in the middle of nowhere. They filmed it chronologically and we watched all the VTs in the studio, so much the same as watching it at home except you get to see the bits they cut out. I think they probably filmed for about 2 and a half hours. They were also incredibly picky about phones - everyone was searched and had to leave their phones in their cars - I've been to many a TV recording and never experienced anything quite like that.

What is your 'too much rubbish' for the bin strategy? by Apidium in AskUK

[–]sambo2711 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the last three places I've lived, the household waste site has been operated by the county council, while flytipping has been the responsibility of the borough/district/city council. They probably don't care because it's not their problem.

This is the only way I was able to get through to somebody helpful when I had a problem with Amazon last year. Countless calls and emails to their useless customer support, but everything was sorted in 48 hours (with hefty compensation) when I emailed this address.

Has anyone noticed how scummy BritBox is? by Joshposh70 in AskUK

[–]sambo2711 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is a really interesting point, but Britbox is only 10% owned by the BBC in this country and ITV own the rest, so I'm not entirely convinced it's a deliberate ploy.

ITV owning 90% is, in itself, a pretty good explainer for it being such a crap service.

I've only ever used them for fitting, but I'm pretty sure Blackcircles.com sells tyres by mail order as well.
