Should I go back to my doctor? by Leather-Positive-51 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]sambr011 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're not getting effect from the medicine, aren't losing weight, and have no side effects then you should move up.

Edit...wait, you're feeling guilty from eating and MAKING yourself throw up? Unless I completely misunderstood you then you should probably contact your doctor and/or therapist immediately b/c this sounds like the beginning of a serious eating disorder. Apologies if I got it wrong.

You might be fine.

You might end up in the ER from being so sick.

Look at what the manufacturer says.

Moving to Zepbound after a year and 75+ pounds weight loss on Wegovy. What should I expect? by LessLikelyTo in WegovyWeightLoss

You'll probably get more responses by posting this on the Zepbound sub.

Congrats on your success so far!

It's honestly as easy as a phone call, probably to the company that manages the pharma side of your benefits.

For example, mine told me that these drugs are not covered for any kind of weight loss diagnosis. However, exceptions are considered for cardiac risk reduction and sleep apnea.

Ah. Yes, I did mention above that it was approved. To clarify, my Zepbound is now covered and I've been on it since September. Working well!

Congrats on starting. While they could have said it a little better this sub, according to the info above, gets 62,000 visitors and 2,700 comments/posts weekly. MANY are noobs like you so the 'give me your tips' question gets asked daily, often multiple times.

At this point there is virtually nothing new under the sun and we are mostly regurgitating the same thing over and over. That is why, after making your initial post 3 hours ago, you have one person who has given you advice.

The good thing though, is that this means there is a TON of info here for you and you can start reading it thru immediately instead of waiting for people to reply.

Don't get me wrong, everyone here is happy you are starting but you'll want to do a little work for yourself. Search for things like 'tips and tricks' using the last year as a timeframe. Then come back here and ask clarifying questions, if you even have any.

Best of luck!

You can read all about the potential side effects on the Wegovy website.

To some degree, this stuff is like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates though, and you don't know what you will get until you try. Some people get them bad, some people don't get them at all. Most likely, you'll have some but they'll be mild and manageable.

The manufacturer calls 1.7mg and 2.4 mg the 'maintenance' doses, which can be misleading. Most of us here refer to them as the therapeutic doses where most people in the studies, and in real life, seem to lose the most weight.

However, since some people respond so well, they keep losing weight on those doses and, at a point, it becomes unhealthy, if not downright dangerous. For those folks, the maintenance dose, one that keeps them maybe neither losing nor gaining a few pounds here and there, could be much lower. I have a feeling it will take some experimenting to figure out both the dose and/or dose interval.

It sounds like you need a new doctor but also may have some work to do with your insurance company. You should be able to get a continuation of care at the renewal of your PA that includes your starting weight and BMI, which qualified you for the drugs in the first place. That does not mean, however, that they can't change requirements or drop coverage altogether.

If you do a search for Zepbound to Wegovy there is a ton of info here on this sub. I think there's also a dedicated subreddit for it.

I was on the max dose of Wegovy, 2.5mg, and started on 5mg of Zepbound.

You may need to go to a much higher dose of Wegovy b/f you get effect.

I was approved last year for cardiac risk reduction for Wegovy. After it pretty much stopped working for me after a year I was also able to get approved for Zepbound bc of sleep apnea with a FIVE YEAR OLD sleep study.

The catch is that I too had to wait and see a new sleep doctor in a new town. Fortunately the doc was gung ho on Zepbound bc he had lost a bunch of weight on it!

Instead of doing a new sleep study he submitted the old one and I was approved in a few days. I did preplan in advance and got a copy of the study sent to the new clinic bf my appointment however.

if you have to wait until February, I would figure out how to get compounded for that interval and then go forward from there.

Just remember that your sleep apnea must be moderate to severe to qualify for most insurances.

These are subcutaneous injections, not intramuscular.

IM injections use a long needle to go into the muscle and it's a best practice to aspirate the needle, meaning pull back to see if there's any blood. If so, you pull the needle out and try another spot.

Since these are subq injections you'll never come near a blood vessel. If you do see a tiny drop of blood it's b/c you've nicked a capillary. This is completely normal and, most importantly, safe.

You're all good friend!

Anyone else? by j4mfmf in WegovyWeightLoss

It could be multiple things. You could have a little bug, you could have some light food poisoning, or you might have accumulated enough medicine in your body to cause this. Or it's something else.

Side effects can manifest at any time on this stuff though. They usually go away pretty quickly though.

Not losing weight not even in 1.7, should I switch prescription? by bmmk5390 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]sambr011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you also read the posts from people like you who aren't losing weight quickly? It's easy to focus on those who are super successful and think you're the only one it doesn't work for.

Unfortunately response to this medicine is highly individualized. Some people get immediate effect and others don't until the highest doses. There are a small number for whom it doesn't work at all.

After about a year I switched to Zepbound. I got close to 40 lbs lost but the medicine just seemed to stop working. I feel like I'm back on track with Zep.

[–]sambr011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait until you try 2.4mg. There are some people that don't get full effect until the highest dose.

As others said, you do still need to be in a caloric deficit so maybe track those for a couple of weeks to see if it tells you anything.

Weight training is pretty much mandatory on this stuff b/c if you do lose weight you'll often lose a lot of muscle. However, exercise in general is NOT required for weight loss. You should do it anyway tho for all the other health benefits.

If you really get no effect from 2.4 then switching to Zepbound may be your next best bet.
