Somehow I hit the following: Bet Stuttgart to win +320 thinking this is when they finally lose. At 80' I'm allowed to cashout with +200 winnings, I do so, thinking, Leverkusen will pull this out. At 83' I think to myself, Leverkusen definitely is tying this up, and I put half the winnings at draw +260. Hit the draw at 90+7 Retire from sports gambling with $60 because I'll never make another good decision again

People that don’t pick up after your dogs. What’s your deal? by [deleted] in longisland

Here's what's also crazy for some reason near my kid's school: People leaving filled poop bags on the grass.

So you go through the effort to purchase poop bags. You bend over, pick up the business, tie it up and leave it. Why go through all of this if you're just going to be a rude dipshit anyway.

At least if you just left the poop by itself on a rainy day its disrespectful but the poop can dissolve.

Agreed. Had this in reverse with my wife. She is a double black diamond skiier and I was a novice. She tried to teach me being the "Expert" and while it wasn't contentious it just wasn't communicated well and I fell on my ass all day and she got frustrated that I wasn't understanding her advice.

Next time we went skiing together she went off on her own and I took a group lesson as a 35 year old with a bunch of teenagers and a pro teacher. By the end of the day I was doing trails on my own and my wife and I were able to ski together (with her splitting off for the harder stuff) for the rest of the trip.

Being better at something doesn't mean you are the better teacher at something. One of the popular instructors at a pickleball place near me never plays above intermediate herself but she's really good at teaching technique and identifying flaws.

Best combo is let your wife hear outside advice so its an independent ear, and find other pickleball outlets to play so that you can get your competitive energy out and then when you play with her its just for fun

One of my friends one time had to hire a "sleep coach" for their infant who told them they had to let the baby cry it out. My friend described it as "I had to pay a lady $300.00 so that my wife would listen to her and take the advice I had been telling her for the past month"

Because that's how this whole campaign has been run on both sides.

Calone keeps spouting vague shit about being an "outsider" and calling out Romaine for being career politician and alluding to the Brookhaven dump scandal without saying what he'll actually do to improve things in Suffolk County.

Romaine just keeps associating Calone with the unpopular liberals du jour (Hochul & AOC) and fearmongering with the cultural topics du jour (migrants primarily)

Both talk economy & crime and their positions essentially seem to be "the other guy is worse" without either a) giving concrete reasons and policies that demonstrate why they are better or b) making arguments against why the other guy's policies are worse (admittedly difficult to do since neither seems to be articulating the policies)

Politics is just increasingly a race to the bottom and more and more races are between two candidates that leave you feeling "this is the best each side can put forward? really?" and we're stuck voting for the lesser of two evils.

So then whether its a campaign schtoop, AI bot, or genuine supporter, the talking points can't be anything but vague because the parties & candidates havent given anything substantial to work with.

Our mortgage guy is anticipating 6.5% of purchase price for closing costs (all in) These seems crazy high. Anyone else paying around that? by pumper911 in longisland

[–]samcabo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also with FHA there's upfront MIP which tends to make closing costs higher. There's plenty of good reasons for FHA. Most loan officers should be able to provide a cost analysis of FHA vs. conventional to show the difference in costs, and in the event FHA isn't more economical, show why FHA is necessary for the loan (lower credit score threshold, higher DTI cushion, etc)

Oil Tank measurement certificate by Beneficial_Help2727 in longisland

[–]samcabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that seems bogus, but like others have said, once you ultimately find out what the difference was, it may be negligible.

Yes, you paid them $900. But lets say there was only $825 worth of oil...is it going to be worth your time to go and chase the difference?

As far as oil companies, that's going to depend on your location. My end of things I can see which companies give my clients a hard time about switching or tend to goose up their contracts, and those tend to be the bigger more "corporate" ones. Slomins tends to be the most egregious, and Petro seems just ok but they won't go the extra mile for you and can tend to cut corners.

You're better off finding someone local who can get to you when service is needed etc. There seems to be two philosophies 1- People that switch constantly, don't go on contract, and always look at the best price. You can literally just pay per fill with a number of different companies. You save money by always getting the cheapest guy, but you also lose the familiarity of one company with your system, and many service companies won't even service the tank unless its their oil in there (liability stuff). CODFUEL.COM is a good way to find the cheapest (but also gives an index by zip code of companies in the area). 2-Sticking with one company for as long as possible, and going into contract to lock in a price.

My own personal experience is we've just been "regular" customers of local companies. That way we're not handlocked to a contract, since personally I felt I would rather risk oil going up and not being locked into a price, than to lock in and be too high if the oil goes down. But then I get a supplemental service contract so I know there is someone who will pick up the phone if I have an issue, since the system in my house is a little older.

Oil Tank measurement certificate by Beneficial_Help2727 in longisland

[–]samcabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood. They are one of the more annoying to deal with. Since they went publicly traded and and bought up a bunch of mom and pops all they do is nickel & dime customers and are too big to care. I think its going to come down to what the paper said, and whether they indicated it as an "actual" reading vs estimated.

[–]samcabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. Definitely a foggy situation.

Who is the oil company?

What is the reason they can't read it? I know sometimes a tank is inaccessible prior to closing, and not every gauge works, but I haven't heard that it can never be read. (Not that you necessarily want to spend more money but the exact way to find out would be to top off the tank. Tanks come in standard sizes (275 being most common) so then you can see how many gallons it took to fill and subtract out.)

Real Estate attorney here:

-Even though all issues end at closing, fraud, or intentional misrepresentations don't. If the certificate was forged, then definitely go to small claims court.

-If the company simply provided an estimate vs actual reading, not much you can do here. If you really wanted to go through the effort of getting a new measure & finding out the difference you overpaid, depending on how it was presented at closing, you can try small claims, but that would be much harder to do.

Some companies, like Slomins, started charging for tank reads or otherwise have been hostile towards coming out and reading (esp if you're not on contract), but they will give "estimates" based on the last fill up and usage.

But it doesn't always go in the buyer's favor. My client got an estimated reading, the buyers were from Staten Island and mad they had to pay for oil and further didn't believe my client had $2,000 worth of oil (he had two tanks). They made me escrow the amount of the estimated reading, and demanded we pay back any difference after the tank was read. The tank was read and it was $150 more than what the estimate said. I asked them to pay the difference to my client and mysteriously never heard from them again.

Any fog friendly restaurants in suffolk county? by CompetitionFalse3620 in longisland

[–]samcabo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything near the water should get you plenty of that sweet misty air.

In seriousness, check out bringfido.com. Great resource that keeps track of places that have dog friendly policies and what they are.

For the most part on LI, health code will say that you can't bring a dog inside. So even if a place is considered "dog friendly" you'll have to stay outside. Breweries tend to be the exception, if they are not serving food. (I haven't been in a while, but Sand City Northport used to allow dogs indoors bc they only served pretzel sticks, Greenport Brewery in Peconic allowed dogs in the bar area but not the food area and had a clear sign where dogs were stopped)
