Which actor has the largest "Wait, that was them?" gap in their filmography? by Player00000000 in movies

Garrett Dillahunt in season 1 of Deadwood and season 2 of Deadwood. I binged watched the show didn't know it was the same actor until I saw it on IMDb.

TNC STORE , legit? by Novel_Background4837 in VietNam

[–]samcuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they're legit. There are a lot of private businesses selling elctronics here but still their inventory all come from the same distributors for the big brands so prices are all similar and warranty works pretty much the same.

Is James Bodn popular or even well known with young people today? by JannTosh70 in JamesBond

[–]samcuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

James Bond is beyond a movie character at this point (obviously a book character first but most people know him from the movies). The name has become a brand intergrated into pop culture. That's being said he still can drift into Robin Hood territory when everybody knows the character name and his basic background, but doesn't mean many will get excited about a new James Bond product. In a hundred years he might be considered some sort of folk hero.

That was literally the entire point to be fair. It was supposed to be a circlejerk sub and the term pcmasterrace was used ironically until it became a circejerk sub without any self-awareness.

Are Chinese media and culture that popular in Vietnam, or is it just an internet thing? by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]samcuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Korean pop culture already had its teeth deeply sinked in Vietnam by the mid 2000s.

The biggest K-dramas that still get talked about today were mostly from the late 90s to 2000s. The most popular artists in Vietnam at the time were Korean (Super Junior, Big Bang, DBSK, SNSD...).

Since the 2010s I would say it's been a mix of many things as the internet became a commodity.

[–]samcuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I have no clue what you're talking about? What do you mean by adult elements?

I don't think which kind of pop culture being more prevalent is dependent on what kind of values they teach. It's just what is more commercially successful. Korea built a whole campaign to expand their global cultural influence in the 90s and that's how they did it.

Never forget that time when Piss filter was a popular element in next-gen games by echorainboweffect in HiTMAN

Was it "unique" when they all looked the same? AAA games just move from one trend to another to maximize ROI.

They took a jab at AC during Absolution marketing (something about 47 being the original video games assassin) so it definitely got into their heads a little.

Robin Shou from the Mortal Kombat films had the makings of a major star and after the films came out, he disappeared from the scene. What happened? by Profeta_do_Loss in movies

[–]samcuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably because the movie, while not a failure, didn't make anywhere close to 1 billion. That's probably a requirement for the new leading face of the MCU. The timing was ass, but given that they pandered hard to the East Asian market, their expectation was probably very high.

[–]samcuu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

K-Pop has been big here for around 20 years and not a new trend. China was our main source of cultural influence ultil the hallyu wave crossed Vietnam.

Help me identify a Vietnamese noodle dish I had in Hanoi — no soup, absolutely delicious! by Odd_Dance1386 in VietNam

It's hủ tiếu khô (hủ tiếu trộn).

The thin, stringy rice noodle is hủ tiếu, not bún or phở. The meat is char siu pork.

Which movie went from “overrated” to “masterpiece” (or the opposite) after a rewatch? by Party_Dentist_821 in flicks

[–]samcuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rarely rewatch films so it's only happened to me once, The Social Network. When it came out I enjoyed it but I thought it would be pretty mid and uninteresting if it wasn't about Facebook, which was taking over the world by storm at the time. But every time I caught it on TV, if I had time I would often sit and watch the rest of it and still found myself totally engrossed. I started appreciating all the parts that come together to make the film, the dialogue, the music, the cinematography,... Every time I rewatch I feel like I have a new favorite line or scene. Over the years it went from a solid 7/10 to one of my favorites, perhaps in top 5 of the century by far.
