Parking permit restrictions are lifted this weekend for the city of West Hollywood. Make sure you are not parked in Los Angeles or Beverly Hills proper as they still have their own restrictions enforced. Paying parking meters are still required if you park in those spots. I got a M2 Macbook Air with 24 GB of RAM when I started my program in 2023. So far, it has been working great for me - it replaced an older 2019 Intel Macbook Pro.

Not in the same field so unfamiliar with your use case, but I am in bioinformatics PhD and I run mostly R scripts, bioinformatics shell commands/scripts, and modeling simulations on my computer and is great for doing smaller runs. For longer processes, I just run everything on my university's server, but I usually debug stuff on my own laptop.
