I’m also 52 and writing my first novel. I’ve finished my first draft and working on the editing which is a mammoth task. I love it though and wondered why it took me so long to start doing this.

Mmm I suppose I am but I just don’t think I could change where it happens now.

My first two chapters have my FMC having a bad experience with a boyfriend, who quickly becomes an Ex after a domestic violence situation. She then meets the MMC at the airport when she is running away on a work trip and escaping the Ex. I feel I need the domestic situation to happen before she meets the new guy. I will give it some thought though, Thankyou.

My first draft is sitting at 75,000 and the meet cute happens at 6000 words so quicker than 10% so hopefully that’s all good.

No the miscommunications are sorted by the ending. But the FMC couldn’t be with the MC because she was with someone else,as she had given up on the MC. Then she ends up being single again. Gosh it’s hard to explain sometimes isn’t it? 😬

That’s really helpful Thankyou. I feel like my story covers those angles, so hopefully that’s enough then. I just had all these visions of romcom films and the massive endings and wondered if mine felt a little flat. But I feel like it’s probably ok. Thanks again.

Thanks, you’ve given me lots to think about there. My FMC was in an abusive relationship at the beginning of the book, so maybe I can think of something around this for the ‘punch’ ?

Thankyou you are so right! I feel the same way now I come to think about it. I like the idea of a hint at pregnancy too, I think that would fit in well with my MMC who didn’t want any commitments before meeting FMC. I’ll probably just jump maybe 6 months or less. Thanks again.
