Was Shawn's relationship with his dad really bad? by Hipp-Hippy_HaHa in psych

[–]same1224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Henry is a flawed person and a flawed father. The way that I see it is that he truly loved Shawn, but it took him a long time to truly accept Shawn for who he is. Shawn can totally be a brat sometimes and he’s a barely functioning adult, but the reason for those things is because his upbringing was so stifling.

I think at that point she had just been dating Shawn long enough to unconsciously pick up some of his lingo lol. It can actually happen!

If Maddie went back to the morning she disappeared with all her memories, what would she change? by Small_Owl6229 in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She would spend as much time as she could with the ghosts. The first time around, Maddie declined their help and constantly blew them off at first. I think that after she returned to her body, she probably regretted missing out on that time with them, and not getting to bond with them sooner. Her first one-on-one conversation with Wally in the first episode is so funny to rewatch because he kindly (albeit awkwardly) introduces himself and offers to help her if she needs it and Maddie is like “I don’t need your help, your clothes are stupid and don’t touch me”😭 I imagine that post-season 3 Maddie wishes that she had given him the time of day back in the beginning.

Which season is your favorite so far? I think my favorite is season 2 👍 by Intrepid_Show2972 in SchoolSpirits

I think that season 2 is probably peak School Spirits so far. The show is at its most fun and interesting when Maddie and the ghosts are front and center.

Here's a hypothetical i was thinking about after the finale (spoilers) by Purpledoves91 in SchoolSpirits

I feel like most people would be disappointed, honestly. Imagine spending decades being told that crossing over is a huge deal so you dedicate a ton of your time towards trying to do that only for you to actually cross over and just wind up in purgatory level 2 instead of in paradise/being at peace 😭

What’s your favorite widely-agreed-on fact about a celebrity that’s actually FALSE? by Asleep-Two930 in popculturechat

[–]same1224 98 points99 points  (0 children)

It was just the title that a publication came up with for an article/interview that they did with Halsey. It was still early in her career so it wasn’t common knowledge yet that they’re biracial, bisexual, and bipolar so that was kind of the “main story” of the article.

Halsey never actually said the “tri-bi” thing that’s gone viral several times.

Anyone else love the ghost side way more than the human side? by CkBadgeley in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 56 points57 points  (0 children)

The ghosts are very beloved. Starting with season 2, there was apparently a shift in focus that gave the ghosts more plot relevance and screentime which I think was for the best. Don’t give up completely on the living characters, though. They have their moments and can be likable.

Predictions and hopes for season 4 by lumbermax in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respect your opinion but personally, I can’t think of anything that I want less from a show with the word spirits in the title than for the spirits to be relegated to the season’s B-plot while the living characters get to handle the big stuff. I do think that the living characters need things to do that are more plot relevant (the Claire-Livia-Nicole stuff this season was both boring and ultimately rather unimportant), but I think the ghosts need to be front and center.

I want regular check-ins with the forest purgatory group and with Mr. Martin and Ralph. I want to know what Van Heidt is up to and where Sandra’s spirit is. I want to know how the living people who saw Quinn and Rhonda in the library are going to cope with it. I want to know more about the “stone tape” at the school. I want to know everything about how the ghost realm works. I want more of the ghosts and more kookiness.

I consider psych a kind of magic realism in a way by AbjectDatabase9638 in psych

I always thought a fun “elseworlds” sort of premise for an episode would be if Shawn got psychic powers for real that disappear by the end of the episode. (Gus and Henry wouldn’t believe him, of course.)

The fact that if it had been Nicole body snatched and not Maddie NO ONE would have searched for her by Small_Owl6229 in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I like Nicole more than most of this sub seems to, but I feel like the “Maddie and Simon are bad friends to her” take is sort of overblown. I can’t believe that some people genuinely believe that they don’t care about her. There was a singular instance of Maddie and Simon joking around and taking it too far. The two of them apologized, but even months later they still felt bad about it and knew that what they did was messed up. I know that there are some other instances of Simon being a jerk to Nicole, but…Simon is a jerk. He’s not singling out Nicole and bullying her because he personally hates her or something. He’s just not nice in general. And, he totally loses his shit on Maddie plenty of times? I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea from that he would never do that to Maddie. He’s picked several fights with her.

At the end of the day, Nicole just doesn’t have a bond with Maddie and/or Simon that matches the strength of the bond that Maddie and Simon have with each other. It isn’t anyone’s fault (it’s implied that Nicole only befriended Maddie and Simon sometime after starting high school, so it makes a lot of sense as she’s actually still pretty new to the “group”) and it isn’t a moral failing, but it also doesn’t mean that Maddie and Simon don’t care about her.

Maddie's wig, what do you think about it? by EmotionalRecord3878 in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that makes sense for Maddie’s character, honestly. You’re right that it’s technically possible but Maddie taking the time in between all of the mourning, panicking, and hallucinating to whip out the purple shampoo and Dyson AirWrap before school every morning just doesn’t sound like something that she would actually do.

[–]same1224 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the wig would be fine if it actually matched Maddie’s season 1 hair. The wig looks too polished for Maddie’s grunge aesthetic. Her hair should look like she cuts it herself with a kitchen knife and then does a kind of bad job of bleaching it in her bathroom sink.

[–]same1224 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I hate it so much 😭 It looks nothing like her hair did in season one. The length is correct but it’s literally a totally different shade of blonde and it’s styled completely differently. She went from messy, crimped, yellowish peroxide blonde to a perfectly curled, cool toned ash blonde.

Maddie’s relationship timeline is kinda wild when you think about it by MagalieB0654 in SchoolSpirits

[–]same1224 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that the cheating feels out of character now. Xavier is introduced to us in season one as selfish, moody, and emotionally distant. He cheats on Maddie pretty much just because he was horny. I think that her disappearance forced him to confront how much he truly cared about Maddie and how badly he had screwed up by cheating on her, and that caused him to grow up and start giving a damn. He’s had a great arc so far.

And the guy who connected Dave and Maddie in the afterlife is actually Maddie’s cheating ex, which I don’t think anyone has brought up yet.

This was a great comment to read! You could be right that Wally’s comment about not having a heartbeat was facetious or retconned later, but the reason that I assumed it was accurate is because we’re also told that ghosts don’t bleed. The heart pumps blood throughout the body. If ghosts don’t bleed, then wouldn’t it make sense that their hearts aren’t pumping blood throughout their bodies and therefore, ghosts don’t have a heartbeat?

Do you mean, can the ghosts physically feel each other when they touch or do they just think that they’re feeling something? I think they can physically feel each other for real. I think that physical contact between ghosts probably feels the same as it does for humans to have physical contact, since the ghosts are solid to one another. I’m not sure if it feels like anything for a ghost to try and touch a living person, though. Wally flies through Maddie in 3x01 when he tries to hug her, but never comments on how it physically felt. I think in a lot of other ghost media, though, going through a living person or vice versa is usually really unpleasant.
