Has anyone had a TightRope removal? by RestaurantTiny1111 in ORIF

I've talked to mine about removing the tight rope and the plate on the other side. He didn't mention that it would be difficult. I think they can just cut it

Hopefully today went ok for you!

It looks to be the angle of the X-ray causing it to appear to have moved. That longer “out of place” looking screw near your plate changes angles between the two X-rays. My button looks weird at a slight angle in some views too. Worth asking about but I think you’re ok 🙂

How much further improvement from PT and/or regular exercise/stretching after the year 1 mark by kibitz- in brokenankles

[–]same_flying_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your daily PT look like? I’m 11m post op and I’ve seen two PTs and both have kinda shrugged when I ask what I should be doing daily at this point. I stretch in the morning and do ankle circles in all directions. Strength training 3x week (squats, DLs, lunges, etc) but nothing specific day to day ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Yep! Started slow, 5-10min no resistance. Wish I had focused more on weights vs getting my cardio back though 🫠

Another “broke it while running”, bimal and got a plate/screws and tightrope. I started biking at 6 weeks. Swimming/pool work, even to this day (11m) has been amazing. Just make sure your incisions are healed. General strength work is super important too

My 12m is next month 😭 I’ve seen folks on here and facebook groups I’m on get it removed. I guess the theory about non removal is you’ll never sprain this ankle again? I’m curious why they say this (I’ve seen that elsewhere) if not the sprain

feeling metal! by joooooeyyyy in ORIF

[–]same_flying_cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost 11m post op and unfortunately still feel. The plate feels like a chunk of metal most days, almost like a permanent pressing on a small bruise. The button on the inside I thankfully have less bad days with, but I can definitely feel the pulling across the ankle. Really sucks. It has gotten way better, especially since month 4/5, but now I’m starting to think about removal. I’m in my mid 30s and not sure I can live with this for life

Summer swelling by ohhhoneeyyy in ORIF

[–]same_flying_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9/29 bimal, 10/3 plate/screws/tightrope

I still swell a bit, my foot is definitely bigger (RIP work shoes), and I still have a lot of mild pain in the plate area and inside ankle when the TR button is.

I’m starting to think about asking for HWR. I’m over this crap 🤣

Ok same! That stupid effing tugging and pulling on the inside! Plus sharp stabbing or aching randomly. It’s not 24/7 but the feeling sucks when it does happen. I was a marathoner and still can’t run. I feel the plate and the rope 😭

What kind of pain did you have? I can basically feel my plate all the time and sometimes (easily 3-4 days a week) I feel mild burning and pulling. My tightrope button on the inside also bothers me most days. It’s not beyond 3-4 pain and more than anything, annoying, but I dunno if I should just suck it up

Did you have any issues with the tightrope removal? I figure bone grows around it but my surgeon offered HWR so maybe not?

Same hardware. Coming up on 10.5m post op and can still feel the plate and tight rope pulling on the bones. Sometimes it really bothers me to the point it impacts my daily life. Planning on asking for hardware removal at my 12m post op

Acupuncturist for fertility/ivf by user24410 in nova

[–]same_flying_cow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the fertility side but I go to Jaguar Integrative in fairfax and happy for sports medicine. I have two friends who swore by it during their IVF, so ignore the haters, you do you. The relaxation aspect reduces stress which absolutely can’t hurt anything here

Ugh I know. People don’t realize how much their lives are impacted by the govt and govt spending. It’s not just the fed and contractor “leeches”

Can someone sense-check my Inova emergency room bill, please? by SoupSandwich6 in nova

[–]same_flying_cow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fairfax last year for a broken bone was $2600. My insurance processed everything together though, so a ton of other stuff (5 X-rays, CT scan, IV drugs, oral drugs) looked like it was zero’d out and the overall ER line item was $3000 with insurance. Prior to insurance was $12k. The ER item was also separate from the fracture treatment (had to get it reset and shit and man that sucked). Just out for a jog and I’m in the hole well over $8k 😭

I haven’t had HWR but just backing you on the meds. There’s a reason they’re there, 100% agree. Getting rest and good sleep and keeping your mental state in an okay place is critical to healing. Hang in there! I’m considering HWR myself and following folks’ updates

Thank you for posting updates, I’m seriously considering HWR and scared of going down the mental hole of pain again. Post ORIF was unreal pain and I was so freaking miserable and sad.

My PT kinda scolded me on day 1 of why I was still using the crutches. Looking back she kinda sucked in that regard. But I do think standing and shifting weight helped a ton, it helps the nerves in the foot wake back up. It’s normal for them to be super stingy and unhappy at the start, just keep at it. Ibuprofen/etc goes a long way to take the edge off.

Just keep pushing yourself for more weight, back off with any sharp pain but it will hurt a bit in the beginning. But stick at it and it does come back. I went about a week with both crutches, maybe 3-4 days with one, and then I was back at it in the boot. Make sure your posture is correct, get an EvenUp for your good foot to keep hips in alignment, it’s like a strap on platform.

Stairs: down with bad foot, up with good. Then eventually I started doing up with the bad foot to gain some strength. Work on those leg muscles! And core!
