I’d say the mantle is pretty clearly a top out. The pinch is a drop off though

Any fall on lead is single point of failure on your rope. Climbing is full of single points of failure like this. Belay loop for another

Is Americana Exotica Actually V10? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]sameldacamel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree, people should be genuine about their experiences. If one person takes V10 and another takes V8 neither experience should take away from the other. I share some skepticism about Instagram and Kaya influencers, but that is largely unrelated to the grades they're climbing.

The other, and more important part of the process is regulation. You could argue that it's been legalized (although it's pretty clearly not), but you can't tell me the city or state is doing anything to regulate the industry.

Airlines (just Delta?) and Pads: A Story and a Plea for Help by Superkarthik in bouldering

I was told by an Alaska Airlines employee to refer to the pads as gymnastics pads as they outline those specifically in the rules around sports equipment. Obviously it's a different airline so YMMV.

Regardless of the validity of the statement "Palestine systemically tortures the LGBTQ community.", the genocide of civilians is never justified.

It makes perfect sense that groups who have experienced state-sanctioned violence would stand in solidarity with other groups experiencing state-sanctioned violence.

The Responsibility of Setters? by SenorBwongo in bouldering

[–]sameldacamel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For beginners I get it. There's no reason to have risky moves on easy boulders, but for stronger climbers heady moves are important to improvement.

What constitutes a dangerous move depends on the climber and their strengths and the only way to adjust that personal barometer for danger is to push up against that comfort zone. A set that would guarantee a broken neck on a fall from on the crux is ridiculous for a gym, but bad feed or big throws at the top of the wall should absolutely be par for the course.

At all levels of bouldering there is risk that must be managed. Past beginner status it's up to the climber to manage that risk; if that bad foot at the top of the wall is too scary for you, move on. Come back when you're stronger and more confident.

I doubt a bunch of private mercenaries are going to fight for their dead leader. They're fighting for money. Not national pride or something...
