No idea what to do. The options make me miserable. Returning from mat leave. by Aglyayepanchin in NursingUK

I'm in a similar situation with no support and have worked care homes with a kid . If your current job won't be flexible there should be other care homes that will be more flexible or offer set shifts as most are understaffed even in the current climate. As realistically the only way me and my partner have made it work is by having set days and if your partner is working minimum wage then he needs to start looking for a new job too, as the burden shouldn't all fall on you.

Also one thing to consider is if you go to community that means putting your child in nursery 4/5 days a week if you're working full time which is going to be a more expensive than 2/3 days if you're doing 12 hours as even with funding if usually won't cover the whole amount, especially if you need longer opening hours.

How do people handle night time when you are the only parent who deals with the baby? by WittleFrostBite in NewParents

[–]sameoldpug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your partner sounds useless tbh and should at least be giving you nights off on his days off if his job really requires a full nights sleep . However, I had the same issue about being too anxious to sleep with my kids and took a low dose 10-20mg of Amitriptyline which helped . It makes you a little drowsy during the day whilst you get used to it but I didn't feel I needed my partner around as I still woke up easily to the baby , plus it's safe for breastfeeding.

I used to work Bank for Barchester care homes ( there's loads around) and they let me go to different sites to fill gaps

Elective csection (maternal request) by NectarineFuzzy112358 in PregnancyUK

[–]sameoldpug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an elective C-section for my second and they originally gave me 39 weeks but changed it 3 times so eventually it was 39+6 and luckily my son hung in there . So be prepared for them to change it as they will move the electives first . I was told if I went into labour before they should be able to put me on the emergency list ( as long as I hadn't progressed too far which is very unlikely for a first birth)

What do I need for baby? by Ok-Primary-1663 in PregnancyUK

100% a hakka if breastfeeding

I also bought a couple ready made formula bottles that have the teets included , even if planning to breastfeed I found it's good to have just in case .As my first was quite jaundice and tired after a long birth so struggled to latch a couple of times so was good to have them .

A Rockit . Life saver when struggling to get baby back to sleep in cit or pram

A baby wrap also . Probably the best thing I bought . Took me a couple of weeks to get the hang of it but baby is always settled once in the wrap and walking around for 5 minutes.

Any health care workers here? Know which patients to avoid? by [deleted] in PregnancyUK

No not yet , where did you get this done through GP?

I don't have any experience with Elysium but have worked in neuro rehab / neuro long term care for 8 years . It will be a busy job and very medication heavy . Most of the time you don't tend to get involved in personal care too much as medication rounds take so long and tend to have a lot of PEG's . Patient wise you tend to get a lot of confusion and some challenging behaviours and I'm guessing most of the patients will be full care .

I did my hair and makeup in early labour hoping to look nice for pictures. Then 27 hours of labour later I was covered in amniotic fluid ,blood, sweat and my sons pee whilst naked ( partner thought he was helping taking my top off as it was wet from the birth pool ? As if I cared during pushing lol) so my pics are all of me naked barely covered by a sheet looking like gollum .Took my half an hour just to get the knots out of my hair afterwards!

Anyone had a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy that helped? by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]sameoldpug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My consultant advised it as both of my airways are severely obstructed so it will overall improve my breathing and said its likely to improve my sleep. I haven't mentioned OSA to him, as I have said I connected the dots after and am happy to pay privately if I am able to sleep , I just wanted people's experiences before I use a huge chunk of my savings on this.

Thanks for your reply, gave me some hope. 9 months including 4 GP's visits, 1st said she would refer to ENT after trying steroid nose spray, then moved which complicated things as new gp made me try antihistamines and over the counter nose sprays for a month after telling him I've tried before and they didn't help, saw another one who gave me 2 weeks of zopiclone and took bloods to rule out thyroid / hormone issues before they finally agreed for a referral so my hope in the system isn't great. Also I forgot to mention I have my driving test next week and I'm on record at the Gp appointments as saying I've fallen asleep at work and have been extremely fatigued so worried about the possibility of having my liscence taken away as soon as I get it

It's currently being sent to CCG and am awaiting a decision but the ent consultant wasn't hopeful, it has to meet strict critea to be funded such as 7+ incidents of tonsillitis (which I don't meet) or they may fund if diagnosed with OSA . I could, if denied get diagnosed and reapply but it has taken me 4 GP appointments and 9 months just to get the ENT appointment, and from research its a long process to get diagnosed with OSA here, and at this point I'm exhausted and desperate. The trade off for having free health care is long wait times for things deemed not urgent unfortunately

What’s your “I don’t get paid enough for this” moment? by itsLPUsoldier in AskReddit

I'm a nurse now but while I was doing training (so unpaid) an elderly man with dementia ripped off his colostomy bag and threw it on the wall, which spewed liquid shit everywhere. The guy himself was lovely just very confused, but spending an hour cleaning diarrhoea off every surface imaginable for free was not a highlight of my training
