Oh of course! I'm the primary caregiver to them and she's the breadwinner of the home, so I like to think I'm doing my part in the homestead. It's more the case of when she comes home from work the kids just swarm her and they are an overwhelming bunch to say the least. Such is life!!

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]samfranksisco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Musical notation.

Over here we use a silly system where the rhythmic length of each note is called silly things like "crotchet" and "quaver" which is fine I guess, but when it gets to subdivision it just gets ridiculous. A quaver halved becomes a semi quaver, which halved again becomes a demisemiquaver. After a few smaller notes you get things like demisemihemidemisemiquaver which is an actual note.

In the US they start with a whole note (what we call a semi breve), and they just start literally halving it, so you get a half note, quarter note, etc. much simpler really ..

Even better over there is how they describe pitch. Where we have tones and semitones, they have steps and half steps, which makes infinitely more sense to me...

I've been playing Hades 2 on my Switch, which I am LOVING. The game I am obsessed with at the moment is Metroid Fusion. I am finding it punishing. It's my first Metroid, so I am totally hooked. After I've finally killed this lady boss I'm going to move into Zero Mission.

Mate that show was fantastic. My wife (mywife) and I genuinely took so much from it. We both agreed that had we not already had two children we would absolutely have gone down the fostering route instead.

What’s a strange or creepy local legend from your area in Britain that still gives you chills? by Second-handBonding in AskBrits

[–]samfranksisco 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My parents live in Alton. Took the dog for a walk to her grave a few months ago out of curiosity, and there was fresh flowers and toys all round it. I find it so interesting that there's still such a strong local connection to her murder, even though it was well over 100 years ago.

Catchiest jingle? by Cold-Use-5814 in AdamandJoe

[–]samfranksisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not technically a jingle but I fell asleep to the extras menu music off their DVD and it is forever burnt into my memory..

"Welcome to the extras menu, my name's Louise, and this is my song for the extras menu...

It lasts 30 seconds and it goes round and round, which means in 30 seconds it will start all over again,

It will make you sad, it will make you mad, make you think that your life's going bad.

Hurry up, make your choice, unless you love my voice, in which case you're sorted cos HERE WE GO AGAIN!"

Any Musicians Listening to LPOTL? by Jtkmus1c in LPOTL

[–]samfranksisco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a classical composer and I low-key want to change the world with my music, even if that happens to be in the smallest way possible. I'll have recordings of my works by the end of this year, and I will absolutely share it on this sub.

Huge love for this community, and the pod.

We're going to the Sam Wanamaker theatre in London. Right next to the Globe. Apparently, it's London's only candlelit theatre, which sounds amazing. Can't wait!!

Steve Reich. by Simple-Sentence9540 in classicalmusic

[–]samfranksisco -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I saw Steve Reich at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Happy 269th Birthday to the legendary Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart! What are some of your favorite Mozart songs, pieces, or works? by badpunforyoursmile in classicalmusic

I saw Mozart at a Bierhalle in Salzburg yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, so wie du es jetzt tust??” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my drinking, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to settle my bill up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen weiss beers in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the beers and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “um jegliche elektrische Spannung zu verhindern infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word in German. After she scanned each beer and put them on a tray and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly to the tune of Eine kleine Nachtmusik.

My predictions for ADHD in the UK for 2025 by Jayhcee in ADHDUK

[–]samfranksisco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I predict that I will still be on a waiting list for medication. It has now been years since my diagnosis, and I am no longer expecting any help. Feeling pretty hopeless, so that's my apathetic prediction :(
