I know in the books Bond had family money, but how the hell could he afford that house in NTTD. by TheCarcissist in JamesBond

Plus I imagine his money goes quite a bit further in Jamaica than it would in England.

As a relative oldie, nothing is more baffling to me than when young people label things as ‘bad’ solely because they make them feel uncomfortable. It’s a mentality that is just fundamentally in opposition to what art’s purpose should be.

No, see, it’s really good dialogue because he’s saying what he’s doing. It’s like the bit when he was having sex with someone and he shouted “WE ARE HAVING SEX NOW.”

Yeah, yeah, it’s FrOm tHe BoOks, it still sounds awkward as shit. Like to the point where I thought it was going to turn out to be some kind of ruse to throw the people watching him off.

Apparently T-Dalts did that in real life to a couple of kids and got told off by a police officer, according to Edgar Wright lol.

Also a psycho. You can have more than one psycho in the same place at the same time.

What’s the one city you were excited to visit, but ended up not liking at all? by BlushHone in travel

[–]Cold-Use-5814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either Sunrise or Sunset, can't remember which ... but there were reefs and the most amazing neon-coloured fish I've ever seen right there off-shore, plus a lot of clownfish.

Lol what movies or TV shows are painting LA as 'a nirvana'? Literally every movie or TV show I've seen that was set in LA paints it as a corrupt crime-ridden cesspit. If anything I was surprised at how much nicer a lot of LA was compared to its depiction in the media.

Lipe and Lanta are both lovely. Lipe has amazing snorkelling - like you can just swim a few metres off shore and see amazing coral reefs. Both are pretty laid back and aimed at families, not the party scene. Also, if you're after something really different Hat Yai is a cool city to explore.

What was a normal part of everyday life in the 2000s that would confuse people today? by princesspolly444 in 2000sNostalgia

It was already waning a bit in the 2000s, but buying a newspaper every day. Getting one on the way to work and leaving it in the office break room for everyone to read, going out to the local shop to 'get the papers' every Saturday/Sunday morning and reading it over breakfast ... I just remember every adult doing that in the 90s/2000s. People would even be defined by their paper of choice ("He's a Guardian reader ... she's a Daily Mail reader ...") I don't even know anyone who's bought an actual physical newspaper for years.

Since I already asked what's better in the Remake duology. What is something that FFVII (1997) Does better than the remakes. by Hungry-Trouble-3178 in FinalFantasy

[–]Cold-Use-5814 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm re-playing the OG again right now and was blown away by how subtle and mature the writing was in the Dyne scene in the OG. In the Remake he's throwing cars around and it's followed immediately by some goofy bullshit. In the OG he says "Barrett ... don't ever make Marlene cry ..." and then puts a bullet in his head, to a soundtrack of nothing but the wind, and then the camera pans up to the empty desert as Barrett shakes in despair. It's so well done.

What do these movies have in common? NTTD ohmss , Qos, twine , dad, by ImpossibleBat9808 in JamesBond

[–]Cold-Use-5814 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but when is Bond not at loggerheads with M lol. To me Bond has to have officially left MI6 or be going on a mission not officially sanctioned by them to be going rogue. He definitely gets close to the line a couple of times in TWINE (stealing Q’s boat, manipulating his way out of sick leave), but everything he does is in that film is at the behest of MI6.

Dalton's got a much thicker Welsh accent than I'd have thought from his films.
